Sorry the rain crummied it up but I think it is beautiful!
First Vitifolia
It's very beautiful...as usual your pictures are awesome! My flowers/gardens are very new...I should have started planting some of them back in Sept/Oct. They'll be fine...just won't be able to enjoy some of the blooming this year. Anyhoo, you take amazing pictures! Thanks!
Love your Passion Flower. I have that one also.
Stunning!!!
Beautiful.
No one said Incredible! Not at all common!
I took this photo taken last year. It’s the common blue passion flower you will find at Home Depot or Lowes. It did not survive the winter :(
I am attempting to grow more exotic ones from seed. Some have started to sprout but I read some can take up to a year to germinate! Yikes! One error I made was not soaking the seeds for 24 hrs.

Lovely passiflora Rich and Donovan! Ü
They all look beautiful!
Monterey, you take amazing pictures.
Would be sooooooooo nice to live in a higher zone ;) ........another gorgeous pic Donovan! Ü
Thank you Lilypon. I would say aside from orchids, passion flowers are my favorites. I planted six passion flowers, one morning glory and one moonflower in my greenhouse this weekend. I don’t know how they will do because this is my 1st green house, erected less than a month ago. It’s all new to me. I am trying to use them to shade my green house because it’s gotten to over 100 degrees in there when I forget to open the door! I am trying a biological method vs. using a shade cloth to cover the green house (which I think look unattractive). I added automatic window openers and I am awaiting vents to help lower the temperature on those hot days. This will be an interesting experiment or a total disaster.
LOLOLOL........it looks wonderful Donovan! We eyed a greenhouse like that in Regina.....maybe drooled over would be a better description. ;) I think you'd better remember to open the doors (adding a fan might help to). Sounds like you grow a wonderful collection of plants, I love orchids as well.
I have many Phals (they love it here) and one cattelaya (sp?) with a long name that I never remember (an experiment to see if I can grow and make it flower on the dry, tho right now extremely hot and steamy, prairies ;).
Lilypon, you probably know this already, if not, cattelayas like to dry out in-between watering. I use wire pot hangers and terra-cotta pots with vents. They seem to like this method. It takes a whole year for them to bloom.
Ron, still just incredible, so beautiful! I really enjoy seeing your passion flowers.
Donovan your system is really interesting. Do you take the pots out of the hangers to water? If not what keeps the water off your floor?
edited to say sorry for taking over your thread Rich! :S

Actually, it’s very tedious because I have so many orchids, over 100 specimens. I take them down with the wire hangers still attached (easier to carry) and water them in the tub, allow them to drain, then pat the bottoms dry and hang them up again. Would be a breeze if they were outside but they are all hanging in all my windows.
LOL I'm tired just reading the above! Over 100 orchid specimens INSIDE.......Donovan you really, really have it BAAAAAAAAAAAD!!!! ;)
Whenever I think watering my plants is a chore I'm going come back here and look at what you have to do *just* for your orchids. And I know you have *many other* plants besides! :S
Lily...
Well are you getting spring time there yet.... we've finally started to warm up some here... Donovan has discovered the way to prevent overwatering... one that has allways kept everything a bit dry here...
GET MORE PLANTS...
Lovely passion flowers... and the orchid shots are splended as well... Orchids are one item I've not indulged myself with... perhaps the only one ...
I've maybe 4 passion vines going now.. the one I overwintered.. blooming alot of the time... went compleatly dormant .. then now has started up again... the others are budding and one is flowering... OH..and the red one I have growing in a planter on the sidewalk .. climbing up a fishing line trellis to an overhang is allways in bloom.. although small in comaprison..still a work of art in it's color and form..
Oh and a word of plantcare for this time of year..to go along with my overwatering idea...
If you go out and everything seems to be filling in nicely... look again...
it's really time to WEED...
Picture is of a passionvine blooming now... near a striped leaf to a varaigated corn
Gordon... NYC Roof gardening zone 4 -14
Monterey & Ron, I just wish to thank you both in advance for offering to dig up your lovely passion flowers and shipping them to me. I have already prepared the area. It could happen, right? :)
GordonHawk, I am guessing you have utilized every available space up there. I would love to see a wide angel view of your NYC roof top garden to see it in perspective. If I lived in the city, my plant obsession would probably cause a roof collapse!
As always your rooftop garden is amazing Gordon.
Spring arrived in Canada and we've either been steam broiling (102.4F) or feeling mighty chilly (high 60's to about 70 during the day....night temps are in the low 50's). Normal at this time would be mid 70's to low 80's and nights in the 60's. We've just got to find the middle ground.....SOON!!
Donovan.. yes every bit of space indeed...
one of the things I've done is to have the side planters and fencing on the top of the bearing walls... and the ones across the front and back are long 22 foot long planters with fencing attached.. these are in mid air and are box beams that hold all of the plants ..dirt and fencing suspended from the bearing walls the 22 ft away... then there are a few in the interior and are all that is on the roof... plus a but of lawn grown on the roof deck.. oh for another picture... nothing that shows everything all together .. as there are no real high buildings near by... her's a shot of a seating area in the middle.. Gordon
Gordon, your “penthouse garden” or “Sky oasis” is way cool! I can’t get over the lawn! It just completes the garden. So instead of chairs, you lay on the grass. I have a big smile on my face writing this because I am impressed with your vision.
Well Donovan.. after the drag races in Englishtown sometime ... and before the flea market... drop by here for a visit/ tour and your complementary beverage...
Mojitoes I think will be the drink of choice this year here... as i have to do something with the big stands of mint... before it takes over...
Thanks for the smile....and complementary words.... Gordon
Gordon, Mint Mojitoes sounds tasty. How do you make that? Rum, mint leaves…? I have a lot of mint myself and I would like to try it other than as tea. Ever make Mammea drinks? I love those! If you make that, I might take you up on the invite sooner than you think :)
Beautiful passifloras! I overwintered my lavendar lady in the basement and it's been outside for quite awhile and putting out new leaves. Need warmth instead of all this rain we've been getting. I can't wait for it to bloom again.
:) Donna
Donovan...
OH Mammeas.. haven't had any in years... since the Carib Islands... if you like the drinks... why not grow your own
http://toptropicals.com/cgi-bin/garden_catalog/cat.cgi?uid=Mammea_americana
OH... Mojitoes are real reay.. take the mint and sugar and lime... put it in a glass... and mash it together ... infuseing mint with sugar bruseing the mint releases it's essence... then add the rum.. club soda and ice.. top with a mint leaf and lime... there you go... this link is to a movie on Mojitoes... a cartoon on makeing it .. and a story about them... sure come on by for a visit... one of the passion flowers must have 100 buds on it now..
http://www.bacardimojito.com/
fill in your date of birth.. and watch the cartoon / movie
Gordon
Thanks for the info GordonHawk, I will definitely try it. Also, I use to live in Union city, NJ and I really enjoyed the Mammeas there.
Here is my experiment. What’s not apparent in this photo is there are 11 passion flower plants planted against the walls of the green house and several in pots, as well as a moonflower and morning glory vine. The experiment is to have the entire walls and ceiling covered with passion flower vines. Let’s see what happened in a month.
That will be cool to see when it happens.
:) Donna
sounds like fun... I've gotthe same experment going here ... with a few variations... got a few more types of vines ...and only 4 passion vines... but one is a few years old...so it will take up the slack of only a few new ones... going to try and cover a 4 staory home... but starting on the roof and working down... My camera is in for a $150.00 tune up... either that or make a new paperweight.. soo.. I'll post pictures when it.s found it's way home.. let the research begin.... Gordon
Pretty funny, converse experiments! Yours are outside, mine are inside. Your vines will grow down, mine will grow up. Yours will be influenced by gravity; mine will be guided by light.
One esthetic disadvantage is I will be looking at the back of my flowers that grow on the ceiling of the greenhouse.
I purchased the Kodak EasyShare DX4530 (5MP), a discontinued model but I am very happy with it.
Donovan. I KNEW Lavender Lady could live through winter here if done right! I'm so glad to hear someone pulled it off so I'll do it too. 1 less plant to bring in makes a big difference around here.
Your greenhouse is awesome, I couldn't be more envious. I'll get me 1 someday.
BTW Your 1st Passion flower picture up there is .P. Belotti, the red 1 is Lady Margret I believe and the last is Lavender Lady. I love and have them all too but am always looking for more. What an addiction these babies can be.
Thanks for the pics, JD
Donna, thanks for the encouragement! JLD II, thanks for the kind words and information. I honestly don’t know the names of many of my plants. As for space, my winters are soooo crowded! Fortunately my girlfriend is very understanding.

Below is the progress of the vines on the greenhouse walls.
