Am looking for a nice healthy seedling/sapling. If someone has an extra please let me know what you might like in trade for it and maybe we can work something out.

I planted one last year, it had several large leaves, it is dormant right now, and I planned on moving it to change my flower garden around, if you want it when I dig it up I will send it to you, it is not very big yet but should grow fast this year.

RB- even a seed will grow so fast you'll be amazed- 12 ft a year!!!! Ours died to the ground over the winter- it's already past my knee now!

Scary thought 12 ft a year. They are such beautiful trees, from all the pictures I've seen. I can't wait! :-)

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

does any one have a pic of the seedlings?? i have a few seeds that were labled princess tree but 2 different plants came up and trying to figure out which is which. as i really want one of these too.

Kentwood, LA(Zone 8b)

I had ordered two. When they came they were in a cup about the size of a quarter. I planted them in a 2" cup. It didn`t take long before I had to put them in a larger pot so I went to a 6" pot. I thought they would be ok for a while, WRONG, I put them in the ground and they have never stopped. I have one that is pink and one that is purple. I know you will enjoy it . The buds stay on the tree through the winter and open in the early spring. At first I thought they were seed but after opening one I saw that it was going to be a bloom. The seed pods are about the size of your thumb and will form after the bloom falls off .

Oh I can't wait! :-)

There are 2 species of Empress Tree (Paulownia) on the market as well as a new variety of the species. P. tomentosa is the best known and there is P. elongata. P. tomentosa (Empress Tree) has fragrant blooms. P. elongata (Royal Paulownia) has more spectacular blooms but isn't very fragrant. Both species are sold as "Empress Trees" and grow astronomically fast and can put on up to 10 ft. of height each year. I used to have one near my front door but had to have it removed because the limbs were pushing against the house. In 4 years it had grown from a sapling to a height over the roof. The leaves of both are humungous and the foxglove-like flowers are purple/lavender color and bloom in large panicles. If you want dense shade and you want it in a year or two, this is the tree for you. One thing I didn't like about the Paulownia was that when Fall comes ALL the huge leaves turn brown and fall all at once leaving a bare limbed tree and a HUGE pile of dry leaves at it's feet. Sort of looked like the floor of a tobacco factory!

Thanks for the offer rylaff, but Kareoke is sending me a seedling. :-)

Sabrakhan, thank you for the info and the links......................

............By the way Marc, I had gotten my Paulownia from a nursery out your way. Forest Farm in Oregon. They send me their catalog twice a year and it's about 500 pages thick! They carry every tree and shrub you could think of and many different and rare varieties of each. They usually carry both varieties of Paulownia, but this season they only offer P. tomentosa. If you don't already have it, you might want to check out their catalog if you like hard-to-find varieties from around the globe. They also have a website: http://www.forestfarm.com/

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Thanks I'll do that :-)

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Received the seedling yesterday Kareoke. It arrived in wonderful condition. I have it soaking now and will plant it later this evening after work.
My plan is to try and twist the two trunks together as they grow....should be kinda cool if it works, and if I can manage to do it without damagng one or both truncks.
Thanks again so very very much for sending this.
I owe ya!
