A Wall

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Hmmm, yes, the butterfly, not the side of a building ;o)

We are getting lots of butterflies now the weather is warming up and the sun is here. Orange tips, Brimstones, Peacocks, Holly Blues, Speckled Woods. The only one I've yet managed to get an almost satisfactory picture of yet though is this Wall butterfly...

Yes, handsome isn't it?

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

I've never seen one of these. It is very pretty! Those eye spots are SO bright!

Thanks philomel. I used to know the Wall Butterfly very well when I lived in England over thirty years ago. Nice to see one again!

Send more photos of your butterfies!

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Thanks to all three of you :)

If they sit still for me I shall imway lol

Shoot 'um anyway! With a digicam there is no film wasted. Might even capture one in flight! Btw, glad you found your way to my favorite forum.

philomel:

Do you have anything special to attract them? Like a Passion Plant? (Passiflora). That Wall is a beauty!

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL...you trying to get rid of your passionvine now?? Don't drag Philomel into your boat. ;)

Kennedy and Philomel, help a gal out...when you want to attract a specific butterfly to your yard, wouldn't you plant a host plant?

Longboat Key, FL

koncrete~:

Still waiting for you to gather reinforcements., huh?

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

LOL imway - they're very fuzzy ;)

Lots of caterpillar food plants and nectar flowers here flyboy.

Yep konkreteblond, plant the food plant of the butterfly's caterpillar and also plants that have flowers which provide nectar for the adults :)

......reinforcements???.......

Burleson, TX(Zone 8a)

Thanks Philomel... I suggested that Flyboy get himself a passionvine if he wanted to attract the Gulf Fritillaries to his yard. My mistake, thinking he would want something they would want to lay eggs on and stay around. So he bought one not knowing they were going to EAT it! lol I'm trying to convince him it's ok, they can share.

He is a stubborn man!

Hey gang:

Spread the word around that down here on Longboat Key, I have plants that I have strictly intended to, as 'philomel' described, "To provide nectar for the butterflies." Hope it works. And, koncrete~: No hard feelings.
And, just in case, does anyone have a omelet recipe for cat' eggs. They are orange, right?

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Should make a good sponge cake then
....though really the eggs my chickens lay are best ;oD

Come to think of it they'd probably make a good job of eating your caterpillars......

philomel~
Where did your chickens get those fancy feathers? Do the eggs come out with the same spotted colors?

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Must have got them from their Mummy and/or Daddy flyboy :)
Seriously, we bought them in the local market and I don't know their parentage, though possibly some cuckoo Maran in there.

The eggs are light brown and sometimes slightly speckled. Taste divine....
(and larger than a caterpillar's too)

Ours are either white or red, and give white or brown eggs.
