I've got a pretty good pod going in the gh from my first attempt at pollinating Dec 7. I've looked around and don't see any named brugs from this cross, do you know of any? LindaSC
Butterfly X Dr Seuss
I've not seen any, but there could be some out there. I think those two crosses ought to make some beautiful flowers Linda. It's nice and plump...Wow! Great job! Can't wait to see what the seeds look like :)
Julie
Looks good Linda, I wish you luck!

How exciting!!
I wonder how many seeds you will harvest from that pod? Hope there are some good ones in there for you.
Hope you get some keepers from your seed pod.
I have 3 pods on Butterfly, and they're a month older than yours. I don't know if pollen parent makes any difference in how long they take, and mine are in the basement, not a greenhouse. Anyway, I'll let you know when mine get ripe because yours will probably be a little bit later. No reason for both of us to keep pinching them every day, right? ;) With both parents of yours being so fragrant, you should get some some wonderful smells from your babies!
I have one pod crossed with Golden Lady, one with Island Girl and the last one is from a Pink Beauty x Ecuador Pink seedling with long tendrils. It didn't bloom until fall, but was darker pink than E. Pink and had longer tendrils.
Please note name change. LindaSC formerly lhughes
I guess the pods have more time to go. How will I know when they're ready?
I noticed that you changed your name! This is my first time to have aurea pods, so we'll learn together. With most pods, they start getting soft and the stem changes color. Mine were started 11/6, so they are exactly one month older than yours. I just checked them (again.......and again.............and again), no change yet. Can you tell that I'm waiting VERY impatiently?
Oh neat Linda lol I didn't even know you changed it, duh me!!! Great looking pods Linda! I got some seeds to grow out for you and they were repotted today and they look great! Now I know when I see ' the strong will survive' exactly what it means. I potted some of Kyle Courtney's seedlings today (2nd potting), Kell's seedlings 2nd potting, your seedlings 2nd potting, and some of Kristi's seedlings 2nd potting....I'm waiting on those from Brugie to get big enough to go in cups under lights.
If you need someone to help you out with growing those Butterfly x Dr. Suess just let me know...as you can see, I love the whole process. I can't wait until I get to put them out in the yard and see the fruits of my labors lol...
Julie ((hugs))
Thanks, this is a first for me and I am excited to see the results. I have so many seedlings of others, where will I plant them all????
Well, hmmm WE WILL hehehe!!!
Yes...interesting fodder for a new experiment...eh? Seeds grown in different conditions...I like it!!!
Linda, I am trying to envision what the color will be like. I thought I heard somewhere that Charles Grimaldi is a product of Frosty Pink x Dr. Seuss. Do you know if that is right?
If so, since Butterfly is darker than Frosty Pink, that should be gorgeous.
Jeanette
I would like to pretend that I know what I'm doing. Truth is, they were blooming at the same time and I decided to experiment. I had never tried my hand at pollinating and didn't expect either cross to take.
Charles Grimaldi is the product of Dr Seuss (pod parent, wildform gold) and Frosty Pink (pollen parent, hybrid suav white x versi pink)
Butterfly is the product of Rothkirch (pod parent, aurea wildform dk pink) and Ocre (pollen parent, versicolor wildform yellow)
My logic (afterthought) is that Butterfly has no white in it's parentage and Dr Seuss is a wildform so this pod should produce no whites. Somebody tell me if that makes sence.
It does make sense. I grew out some of Crestchik's seeds a couple of years ago. They were Isabella x Charles Grimaldi, Isabella x Whiskers & white sauv. x ?. I got all light pink from the Whiskers, all coral pink from the Charles Grimaldi, and mostly white from the white sauv. I did get 2 yellow ones from the white mother, and brought in one that hadn't bloomed because the buds were about to open. White, like it's mother, but with a wonderful, very different smell! I'll keep it long enough to let it bloom this summer to see if it does anything. When I showed CC the darker yellow one, she said that Whiskers was probably the father of that pod, too. That's probably where it got the delicious smell.
I would guess that most of your babies will be a dark coral pink, but we'll just have to wait and see!
