Who Sent me Blue Satin Seeds Please?

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Sure glad we have this forum specific to hibiscus. I had a small mailing envelope with several "Blue Satin" Hibiscus seeds. I finally planted them and wanted to share the progress with the person who sent them to me.

I went through my records and just couldn't come up with an answer.

I had a dozen seeds I planted the other day and 4 have germinated already. Remarkable? For me it is, I can only germinate about 30% of the seeds I try.

So please, whoever sent me the seeds, let me know so I can thank you.

molly...we traded in the past and i did send someone some seeds off of my little plant....lol..but i dont remember who....maybe it was me...lol...i still have some left if they dont do anything....cindy

Cindy,

Would you be willing to trade with me for some?

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Cindy,

I thought it was you but I couldn't find any notes on it. While I was waiting for your answer.....they all germinated.

Do you think they will bloom true? Of course I'm sure it will be quite some time before they are even ready to do that.

Thanks for checking in here.

Molly........ Your seeds will not bloom true because it is a hybrid. One of it's parents is Blue Bird and I do not know the parentage of the other.

If the seeds came from a Blue Satin that was pollinated to itself, you may get 3 of the Blue Bird, one of the other parent or combinations of both. Cross your fingers and maybe you will get lucky and have one seed that wil turn out to be a Blue Satin, but I very much doubt it.

if the plant was open pollinated you gonna probably have lots of surprises, but that could be a good thing. You may have the strength of Blue Satin and a totally unigue color come out. : )

The only way your gonna get a true Blue Satin is to have a cutting of it.

molly i can tell you that there are no other hibiscus in my yard so it was self pollinated....lol...i have some seeds left so i may try them and see what happens....mine has not started its new growth yet this year but if you dont like what you get with the seeds let me know and if my little plant is big enuff i will send you cuttings...i have never done hibiscus cuttings before, but you can....lol

Starlight,

That is some great information. Thanks for taking the time for me.

Cindy, I am getting excited now. All the seeds have germinated and look good. This will be like Christmas in the summertime. We know the size of the box, just not what's in it.

You know, I love the blues, but am sure interested in seeing all of what we might get. May I name them Cindy? Can I do that?

I'm on the road at 7am to the Florala Roundup. Be back Sunday night.

Molly... if ya get a totally new cultivar from those seeds that is worthy of introduction ya can not only name it.. ya can patent it. LOL

It's been 2 weeks now and look what they've done.

What do I do now? and later?

P/S. Forgot to say, they have been out on my patio from the beginning, no direct sunlight, but certainly high light and no real special treatment, just sitting there as you see them.

Since they all have grown or started to grow their second set of leaves, I decided today was the day to put them each in their own cell.

My Yellow Bauhinia was doing well too, so they got their own cell as well. Man you should have seen the tap root on these babies. These guys are in the 9 pack on the bottom left.

I guess I should have thought twice before leaving behind or giving away my watering trays. But where there is a will, there is a way.......

Hi, I was excited to find this forum and thread. I found Dave's doing research about Blue Satin Hibiscus, they look so pretty on the web, I hope mine look like that when they bloom!
Now, I do have a point to this post LOL. My mom wants one too and asked me if I could make her one from one of mine. It says on the tag 'propogation restricted'. What does that mean? That I can't do it at all or just to sell or something else...??? I am new to all of this, I hope I don't sound too dumb!
