Plumeria Get-together in Florida

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

There is a get-together being arranged for all you people who live in Florida or close to it. Here is the information below. All are welcome. Roger is a great guy with hundreds of different varieties of plumerias, and Florida Colors is an amazing nursery. It should be fun for everyone and wonderful to tour the nursery.

"Just wanted to let you guys know that there is a Plumeria Get Together at Florida Colors Nursery on April 30. There will be doorprizes and lots of give aways such as Lei Rings, Hats, T-shirts, CD's, and, of course, Plumies. Would be great to see some of you guys. Excellent time for some of you Newbies to get to meet some of the guys who have lots of plumies and even more knowledge to share. Please email me if you would be interested in joining us.

What town is his nursery in? Sounds like that would be a fun thing to do.

MsJen, Roger doesn't have a nursery. He just has hundreds in his backyard! The nursery where everyone is to meet is Florida Colors Nursery in Homestead, FL. Here's a link to the nursery: http://www.floridacolors.com/ That's about all I know. Contact Roger by email for more information.

Yes, they always have great fun at these get-togethers, and they have them several times a year. There are also Plumeria Societies all over the country. Here in California, we have the South Coast Plumeria Society and the Southern California Plumeria Society, and then there is the Plumeria Society of America: http://www.theplumeriasociety.org/ There is also a Virtual International Plumeria Society: http://www.plumeria.org/

oh to be near Florida and attend this get together. If there was a way, I'd be there.

MG99, I'll let you know if I hear of a Canadian get-together!

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

We'll all just have to keep adding to our collections and have our own plumie get together Linda.

Lantana, FL(Zone 10a)

April 30? I'll be there! I'll do whatever it takes to arrange my work to fit in! I've been planning a daytrip down there come summer when my work schedule lets up. April 30 is close enough to be do-able. I just bought my first plumeria rubra today and now I want more of the unusual varieties. I'm only sorry that you won't be there, Clare. You seem to be extraordinarily knowlegable about this beautiful plant. Your pictures always leave me in awe.

Thanks, Liila! You're so nice. I really have only been growing plumeria for a few years now, and there are much more knowledgeable people out there. If you can make it to Florida Colors, you will meet some super knowledgeable people like Luc, Carol, Roger, and others. You should email Roger and let him know that you plan to be there. You can tell him that I sent you. Congrats on your first plumeria! What color is it, and where did you get it? There are door prizes, raffles, and give-aways at these get-togethers so you won't have just one for long! LOL!

Liila:

I hope you'll have a great time at Florida Colors. I drove by the nursery two Saturdays ago and the plumerias planted along the road had come out of dormancy and were full of leaves. Hopefully you will see a lot of blooms when you get there. I won't be at the nursery that day because I'll be at the Spring Plant Sale at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, hopefully. :-)

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Delecie,

The sale at Fairchild on that day, are they selling any specific kind of plants?

I may make both of these events if I can work it out. If I'm gonna head south, I might as well make the best of it. Maybe I will bring company along too.

Molly:

They have a few of the plants listed here: http://www.ftg.org/horticulture/springsale05.html but they'll also sell other plants that are not listed. I love their sales because I never know what I'll find. :-)

Lantana, FL(Zone 10a)

Oh no! (Or, Oh yes!) A plumeria get together *and* a plant sale at Fairchild? Hey Molly, just how big *is* that van of yours? Mack truck sized, hopefully? If you run out of room on the inside, you'll just have to start strapping the passengers onto the roof!

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

No Liila,

The passengers get tied to a rope to run along behind......heeehee.

It's a GMC Safari, and the 2nd bench seat has been removed for more space in the back. I've been to 4 garden roundups and have carried lots of plants. We did have to leave a motorcycle in Tenn once for lack of "other" space.

I have my priorities straight.

Be sure to leave their hands free! That way they'll be able to carry at least a 3 gallon pot apiece whilst trotting!.............I know you offered to drive, but on second thought perhaps I should just take my own vehicle....;-D

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Like Linda (MG99) I'll be there in spirit! :)
