Tell me what do I need to do to this to make it look beautiful again? It's lived all winter in the garage.
Okay banana experts....
I think it will get beautiful again on its own, as it warms up. I've been told its better the keep to ugly dead stuff as protection until all danger of frost is gone. It will be beautiful again. On 2nd pix is that a dwarf or just a young zebrina?
Thanks vossner I won't cut on it then. You know, I'll have to ask Brugie if she knows the name. She had a coop for these two years ago. I can't remember the name.
Speaking of nana's, anyone know of a good place to get nana fertilizer online? My local nursery doesn't carry anything with a lot of potassium in it.
Just emailed Brugie and she told me it was a Zebrina. You were right Vossner. Emilyrasmus, I don't fertilize mine with anything special and it grows like a weed.
Hi Datdog, Speaking of Ugly look what I have been living with all winter...It will soon be divided and placed outdoors. Yippeee Yours should perk up in no time and be nice and tall this summer. I got my first Zebrina last year late in fall and can't wait to see how they look in the Garden. Oh and yes I have a Brug filling the air with a heavenly scent..
I also don't fertilize with anything special MG is always near my watering can.
:-)
I love the musa zebrinas! I have a nice clump in my backyard. They are starting to leaf out all over again. Their doing better than my "basjoo"! Pictures are from last summer.
BTW: I cut my down in late fall and only leave a foot above the ground. I've always done that and they always come back. I left them alone one year and did nothing to them and it seemed like they took forever to leaf out and grow. It's just been my personal experience, besides I hate when they dry up and look all crispy!
Randy
My Dh did something with my bananas!!!!!!!!!!!! We lives in our new house which it was builded in front. We used to live in old trailer in back. There's bananas around. Mobile Trailer was moved few weeks ago and there is bananas that I need to move. Most all are brown and dead. Some have shoot new leaves.. Yay! I was cutting and remove the dead leaves.. but DH came by and set it fire on it.. I was stood up and You are killing my bananas. He said no. it will burn the dead leaves faster. and give you less the work so I carefully watched and water it quickly when it burn all dead leaves . Even I put some fires out before it keep going and going. It was quickly clean.
This morning I went and checked.. some have shoot new leaves. Whew! Glad we tested it.. I have so many bananas to count. They are in ground all around years.
Wish we had a cheap place to get the AeAe nanna. Hate to mortgage the house to buy it! I was hoping that maybe the price would come down, with tissue culture.
Bananas love epsum salts, you can buy at your local pharmacy, it has lots of
potassium.
Datdog, Randy, I love my Zebrinas too. I also bought a red Abyssian last fall which is the one with red veining that does not pup. And I continue to lust after ae ae...(sigh, sigh, sigh). Like you, I whack them about 1 ft from the ground in late Dec/early Jan. This winter with our 20 second snow "event" I was sweating bullets because I had already whacked them and wasn't sure if my babies were fatally exposed. They're coming back, about 3 ft tall right now.
OR...throw your wood ashes on it...they love the potassium!!!
