Couldn't take it anymore! Not a pretty picture.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

I kicked them all outside today. I'll take my chance and watch the weather like a hawk. I know it's a gamble but one I'm willing to take right now. I've had these stuffed in the garage all winter. Slowly I've been turning down the heater and the average temp. has been about 40 F. It's warmer outside. If we get below 35F at night I'll haul most of them back in. Is anyone else at this point or am I having some hormone issues? LOL...

Group photo... Some sorry looking plants. I really do neglect them over the winter. It's a surprise that any of them live at all.

The strong will survive... Check out the pods on Versi-orange. Who new they were still on there? That poor plant didn't get water but one time all winter. It is crossed with Rosamond if anyone wants seeds. I'll check to make sure they are good.

Trash Can seedling.... What a tenacious plant. All those suckers grew over the winter. You can see where I cut them off in the fall.

Now to think of where to put them all over the summer. This past fall I gave away about 25 plants. I thought for sure I didn't winter over that many. Guess I was wrong. I also have several large plants around back. It's too funny. I need to move to a warm climate.

On the plus side. My garage is now clean and large again. Husband is happy, I'm happy. All is good in my world now. LOL For those that are getting cuttings from me. As soon as I water these guys really good I'm going to do some pruning. I'll get them out ot you next week. I'll also have extra cutting of Butterfly and a few others. I'll post here after I prune. Happy Easter everyone.

(((hugs)))

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

I am feeling the same way, mine are all in the house stepping around them all the time so mine goes outside tomorrow

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Kareoke- I would have tossed them out a month ago if they were all in the house. It's bad enough having them take up the whole garage. You can't believe the mess we cleaned up in there. GROSS... Good luck with getting them all out.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Enjoyed seeing your pics. Makes me feel better! Leaves all over our basement floor. I carry a couple plants up each time I go down there, put in enclosed breezeway. Have two nice tables in garage, next step. Save me a couple seeds VO x R. I am growing my own cross of VO x Aurea Pnk/EP/B? Hoping for deep orange-pink bloom.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

How can you put them ouside in Jersey?
I drove to parsippiny all last week and they got a quite a bit of snow last week

I'd be so scared

I'm not even close to being able to put anything out
we are still snow covered
although I'm starting to see bare spots!!!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

CC- last year I put them out on April 1 and didn't have a problem except a light frost. It is too early as our weather has been cool. I'll be keeping a close eye on the weather. It's been pretty cold in the garage so they are use to the cold temps. As long as we don't get in the low 30's at night I think they will be okay. If it gets past 35F I'll drag them back in. We've not had snow in awhile. I'm in Southern New Jersey. Not sure where Parsippiny is?

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Its in NJ LOL
its 45 miles from the Delaware water Gap
Rt 80 and 287?
you come down outa PA at Strousberg
If you keep going past it you end up at Patterson
and then into NYC

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Parsippiny is in N.W. New Jersey (40mins by train to N.Y.C.), right near my son's college.

Since I'm South of you Kristi, I'm very tempted to start dragging the ones in the sunroom outside during the day. It's suppose to be in the low 60's, but I'll have to keep a close eye on the evening temps.

Sunray is blooming at the moment, plus one "Lake Effect" + "Whiskers" that I grew from seed. It's a cross from CC. The Brugs in my basement need to be potted up to a larger size and then slowly acclimated to the temps outdoors. That's one of the downsides of overwintering your Brugs inside your house. It would be a lot easier if I had a stand alone greenhouse, where I could keep the Brugs at a cooler temp during the Winter and then gradually raise it in the Springtime.

Don't feel bad about your Brugs, mine look the same way! I just sprayed them AGAIN for those darn spider mites! It will be a lot better and much easier once they are all outdoors!

Please keep us posted on how your Brugs are doing with the early Spring temperatures. I'm really interested to see how the fare.

Happy Easter everyone!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Okay CC I'm a dork but not that big of one. I new it was in NJ, just not sure where it was at in NJ. LOL...
Tonight we are getting rain so at least they will be cleaned off when/if I have to drag them back in. I used a hand dolly and most of the brugs are right next to the garage so it won't take to long if the weather goes to heck. I was able to spend some time cutting off the dead branches and cleaning up the bottom of the pots.

New Hyde Park, NY(Zone 7a)

I'm with you, i've been repotting and moving out from the house to the garage tho. Don't know if it's hormones or my husband? or my husband making me hormonal lol

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

You're so lucky to be able to put them out now. I've still got snow on the ground and supposed to get more snow and freezing rain Monday morning and afternoon.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Shirley that is why I don't keep mine in the house anymore (that and the bugs), it's too hard for me to get them use to the outside weather. The last two years I've done it like this. Since they have almost no foliage and they are use to the cold they don't seem to miss a beat. Last year I had blooms on several in May. Not too bad when you have a short growing season. The down side of course is a turn in the weather. Then I have to drag them all back in.

mns2lv4ever- Too funny. I feel the same way. :)

Snow when is it safe to put them out for good where your at? Zone 4a- brrrrr..... I don't know how you do it. I'd be one cranky lady, kind of like I've been the last month LOL.. I can hardly stand to be around myself now LOL.... I don't think I'd survive a zone 4 winter. If the cold didn't kill me my family would toss me out in the snow.

Center, TX(Zone 8b)

I put all my plants outside Friday & Saturday. You can walk around on my front porch now! Yesterday it got cold and down to 38 last night. Hope they make it cause I'm not bringing them back in. I'll just cover them if there is a chance of frost.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I opened the garage door yesterday and let mine have a taste of weather and good light. That's it. Too much time left that we could get snow or freezing weather. They have to stay inside. I hope you don't get cold and have to drag them back inside.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Shirley when can your plants go out to stay? I'm sure I'll be dragging them back in before long but for now at least they are getting some much needed rain. I really let them go this winter. The way I had them stuffed in the garage it was very hard to get to them all. Plus my huband stuck little pots behind big ones, I didn't even know half of them where there. I'm not sure how they survied. I did lose a few but nothing I'll miss. I'm downsizing anyway as most of mine have to be potted in pots. I'm running out of places to stick pots in the yard. By the middle of summer the yard ends up looking like a messy nursery. It drives me crazy. Also the cost of potting soil is getting to be such a big expense and I can't find any really good ones anymore.

I'm only adding a few new/old ones this season. My big thrill for this season will be Gloria's double orange one bloom. Love the color orange on brugs. I'm just about pinked out. Seems everything in my yard was pink last season. It's a beautiful color for sure, but I love the hot colors.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Generally not until the first week or two of May. There are days that I put the seedlings out, but the nights are just to risky until May.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Glad you got my double peach/orange to bloom Kristi. It is much different than HG, which isn't easy to get to bloom.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Not yet Gloria! But I hoping it will bloom early in the season. I have a special place in the yard for it to go as soon as it warms up. I'm going to plant it in the ground. How much sun can it take? Thank you for sending it to me. ((hugs))

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

So glad you appreciate it Kristi, hope it meets all your expectations.. Takes all the sun I can give it here. Keep us posted.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

The first week of June is usually safe to plant out.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Kristi,I have the truck all gassed up,you just leave them in the driveway!
I am going to wait till this full moon passes before I bring mine out.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Me too, full moons sometimes bring frost or cold temps.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I did not realize the moon phase, till I felt it cool off last night,Kristi almost had me ready to lug pots out.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Nothing wrong with that, if you feel like lugging them back in again and again.
Me, I'm only doing it once, maybe will cover.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I wouldn't take that chance. PLUS - I have a feeling you will be breaking your backing, bringing them back & forth from and to the the garage. Mine aren't going outside until May - perhaps MID May. My smaller ones (my new cuttings) I will probably take outside and them back in, on nice days, if it's 65 to 70 outside - but my big ones are staying put until all danger of frost has passed. Where I live, Mother's Day is a good rule of thumb for planting and transplanting outdoors.

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

It's like 72 here today and I seriously thought about putting mind out for a breath of fresh air. But thought twice because didn't want to have to drag them back in again.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

I plant my seeds by the moon phases. I think it works. Karrie I've got major back problems that is why I use a hand dolly to move all the plants. Really know strain on the back at all.

We've had rain all night/day today so they really are hydrated good now. Some of them were looking a little wilted and shrivled up so they really needed this.

Knoxville, TN

I am in zone 7 and moved a few Brugs out over the weekend. I put them under the eve of my sunroom hoping I will not have to carry them back inside. Today is suposed to reach a high of 77 and I am not sure that I will be able to resist the urge to carry more out even though I KNOW I will be lugging them all back in the garage at least once.

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

34F Pushing-pushing-pushing.... I have a 'test' plant out there and it's doing good. It's very sensative to the cold. If it isn't wilted then the brugs should be fine.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Newbie here on Brugs........

I see that all the leaves are taken off below the Y. Mine are about 2 1/2' with lots of stuff going on below the Y. They are almost bushy. Time to lop the little growths off?

Thanks

Nancy Lee

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Nancy if you want it in a standard form cut all the bottom growth off.

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Datdog,

They will be outside all year and I want them to be trees. Cut the bottom thingys then?

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yep...

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Kristi, I followed your lead and put all my Brugs and bananas outside yesterday and today we're having outrageous winds and most are laying turned over on the ground. LOL

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

We had 37 mph winds here. Sure cleans out all the old dead branches high up in the trees. Look out below!
