SK lily philadelphicum
I hope it works out for them. We had a pasture that was covered with the red western lily until a farmer that rented it cultivated.
That's going to make for quite a blooming SK.
Thought you SK guys might want some, get your garden clubs etc involved.
I go along the back roads ditches in the spring, looking forthem. All I find are the yellow lady slippers, no lilies at all.
Inanda
so how are these different from what i always called tiger lilies on the prairies when i was a kid?
Prolly the same thing. I've seen them listed in different publications as the tiger lily, western red prairie lily and SK prairie lily.
I'd love to start them but it wouldn't be for another year. I did transplant ones that I found remaining in the pasture to the fence line.
Used to see so many around but too many fields are cultivated now. North Battleford and area still have large fields of them.
My DH knows where there are big patches of them in southern Manitoba. I got three tiny babies from Nevrest last year, sure hope they survived. Speaking of, hey Dorothy, where are you?
Nevrest's farm and my Dad's are in the same area.
My Mom has a nice patch by the house out in the country, and over the years they sure have spread,. will take a pictures this summer.
and I planted all my extra liliies out there in the garden
hope the bunnies don't find them.

Coming to visit Saskatchewan this summer Blooms? ;)
Thanks for the link, Ginny - this sure is interesting. Seeding by hand....wow...hope they have had lots of help!
inanda.....are you talking yellow lady slippers, the yellow Orchid?????????
I was wondering that too Ginny. It would be wonderful to have the yellow ladyslippers growing wild around where you live.
Thanks for the info, I have entered the draw as well.
Pat
My dad in Stoon has entered it as well. I think this is such a neat idea!
Shannon
Roselaine & Sandy,
Yep, the yellow ladyslipper orchid. Echoes, do jump in here with the name. Will try to take pix this summer.
Neat to meet you both last week.
Inanda
It was nice to meet you too Ginny but we didn't really get enough time to have much of a chat. I missed you on the Saturday when we went to Butterfly Gardens and the nurseries. I hope your vehicle is working fine again.
Sandy
Update to say that my philadelphicum (from near Ft. McMurray) bloomed this week, my first lily bloom of the season.
Inanda
Thank you Inanda, I was lucky enough to win a draw and received about 60 lilies. I shared them with my gardening friends. Joelle
WTG, Joelle!
Oh Joelle, How wonderful!!! Anybody else lucky enough???? How large were the bulbs? Where are you planting them.?? I mean, in perennial borders or together somewhere to make a statement??? I thought the draw would be for one or maybe 2 at the most.
That is SO exciting. Now you will have to hunt around for other species.
Inanda
Wilma, Did you remember to take pix of your Moms patch of philadelphicum? ???
Inanda
Congratulations Joelle! :D
