I had been lusting at tree roses but couldn't bring myself to pay $35-40, (didn't want to run out of COOP money). Finally, I saw this at walmat for $14.88. I've heard tree roses don't fare well, so we'll see... Not a very good pix.

You need to stake it. On the side where the heavy winds come from. The stake needs to reach the top graft to keep the wind from snapping off the trunk. It should do fine...just treat it like a rose.....lots of sun, water and fertilizer. Prune for shape.
If they predict a long below freezing stint this winter, just cover the trunk with those foam pipe insulation tubes at HD. That should keep the trunk from freezing.
yeah, I was beginning to think I should have gotten a shorter trunk tree rose (which walmart had for about $10). Thanks for your comments, I will be looking for a good stake for it.
I wonder if a year from now I could transplant the tree inground. Don't remember seeing one inground.
also wonder if the trunk will get thicker with time.
shebear I did exactly as you said. my baby is staked. thanks.
Thur the summer my tree rose treated me to a lot of flowers, but by end of August leaf production has slowed down considerably. So, I decided to plant it in ground, and the results have been dramatic. Right now it has 7 buds and lots and lots of leaves. It is planted between 2 crape myrtles.
Upon examining the pot, I noticed a couple of white grubs (yuk), I guess they were really doing a number on my beautiful rose. I used top quality soil when I planted in pot, don't know where they came from. But anyway, it's doing well now.
Nery, that looks really nice, glad it's doing well for you. As for the grubs... I'm convinced those things just appear from thin air, lol!
