Seems strange to me, maybe you'll think so too.

Last fall I bought a double hibiscus at a local nursery, labeled orange punch which bloomed non-stop. This morning I noticed a bloom but the flower is not double, just your regular five-petal hibiscus, same strong peach color. a double reverting to single? isn't that strange? I've got a gillion buds so I'm not going to complain too much. I'm just puzzled, more than anything.

I've had doubles throw out a single bloom from time to time. Hopefully it will get back to normal.

well, I'll be. I'll continue to post here.

I've had the same thing happen. Sometimes even roses look different than what you ordered. When they get more strength and growing better, bloom same as original.

Nery, my hibiscus "snow queen" just bloomed the other day and the blooms were half the size of a normal bloom. It does this every spring! I think it's because it's coming out of it's dormancy period and doesn't have the strength to push out a full bloom. It's still putting on leaves that aren't very big yet.

you guys, I learn daily from you. Today I looked at a second flower and it wasn't a full double bloom, more like a regular 5 petal blossom w/ 2 more "wrinkly" petals in the middle. Your comments explain what is happening. thanks.

Randy, I owe you some comments on the plumie websites you recommended. DH has to do extra work so computer time is limited for "cruising". In the meantime, I am the proud mama of a scottie cutting and and Irma bryan, which I got on Ebay following Clare's tip. Also bought a rooted cutting from Florida Colors but right now can't remember variety. Also a deep red. I LOVE red. (tough I'm lusting after Intense Rainbow, too).

I took this pic yesterday. after I applied fert. with high 3rd number, buds appeared overnight and they are all doubles! Color also seems more intense.

I had gone to my first flower show recently, it being a hibiscus show, and was told using bloom booster was a no no. It must have been true, my leaves were turning yellow like crazy. then I applied hibiscus fert. w/ high 3rd number and difference is dramatic.
