Execuse me for double post, orginally i posted in container plants forum, i dont think this belongs there..
I'm very beginner, so please excuse me if i do not understand the terms.
I planted few bulbs last fall, and there is no sign of coming out of the ground. Shouldn't i see the plant growing by this time. I live in 7b zone.
Please advise.
Bulbs did not grow
What kind of bulbs were they and when did you plant them. That will help in determining what should or should not be happening with them right now.
what type of flower were they for gardenbegner? If it was for a spring flowering bulb I would think you would have seen some new growth by now but if it was for something that flowers during the summer chances are its still waiting for it to warm up a bit more. If your really worried(like I get) dig down just a litt to see if they are still there and not mushy. Even the best planting can sometimes go awry.
LL smilin, we must have been posting at the same time. That always makes me giggle. Aslo makes me realize that Im learning more and more everyday thanks to you guys and this website.
Careful, when digging to look though, -they seem to move over a few inches - right under the digging tool.
one of the things gardening does is teach patience.
Notice i did not say we learn. teehee
were they little, as in crocus?
really big as in lily?
usually the bigger ones are planted much deeper and take longer to show on the surface. /;-) ~Blooms
Thanks for your ideas. I could not beleive the replies.. I just joined this forum and each penny is worth here, i guess.
I do not know what i planted last fall. (Told you, I'm very very beginner) I should have the boxes and let me check over the weekend.
Reminds me of the first time i planted bulbs. I thought it seemed logical to plant the pointy side down. Ooops. But they grew anyway. (Crocus. very forgiving.)
I would take a wait and see approach. I'd probably dig down and have a peek sometime late April or early May. Or, if I got busy, I'd probably forget them and plant something over them. :) If they ever did decide to come up, I'd have a nice surprise. :)
I have bulbs of gladiolas that aren't peeking out yet. Maybe those or lily bulbs would take until May to show up. Just wait and see.
Welcome, gardenbegner, you will love it here.
Bulbs are strange, but determined. Most likely if they don't bloom this year, they will next if they don't rot. They probably haven't been in the bed long enough. Like Windy said gladiolas and several others don't bloom until much later.
We are all chomping at the bit for SPRING! You are not alone.

Hi, gardenbegner--so good to see your post--especially since I posted about the same deep angst I had for my daffodil crop http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/489239/ not showing up yet this year.
Thanks to all the nice DG posters (above), I have decided that we cannot give up hope on bulbs even when they don't cooperate, and we *must* persevere with spreading the joy of daffodils by continuing to plant them with abandon every year, even if their behavior does make me(us) neurotic! lol
So glad you joined the forum. Keep posting...I need company in my beginner 'deep angst' moments. :-) t.
