Once again, I went & collected every seed pod off my hedge of hardy Rose of Sharons. They are white with maroon centers, with a couple of violet & light pink ones too. I can mail out in bubble mailers for cheap - I would guess about 2 or 3 stamps? As many as I can fit in the envelope. They grow about a foot the first year, & then you can start pruning them for shape the following year. My address is in the extras area, or you can email me. Is there anyone out there who would like some of these seeds? I just can't bear to throw them out or toss them into the compost!
Hardy Rose of Sharon
sent you mail. Thanks
What does "hardy" mean in this instance. I have Rose of S, but it is deciduous. Has lotta new growth and leaves now.
I want some!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please!
Would love the ones that are white with maroon centers.
I'll send you some stamps.
Brian
I'll take some Julie. Sending you some snail mail.
~* Robin
These are hardy to zone 5 I believe - maybe even 4. No sign of life on them as of yet, but Spring is really taking its time gettin here!
Hey, Julie! Nice to see you back on the threads - hope that means you're feeling somewhat better!
Robin - if you need more, mine are pink (I think) and I can add some to your envelope when our Johhny's order comes in!
I have found that 2-3 stamps are plenty - even one stamp will get you about 30 sseeds at the minimum! Thank you to everyone who has asked for seeds. I still have tons left. Any more takers?
Do these plants come true from seed?
I like the single white and light pink.
I have a lilac plant and a double white.
That one sure looks like 'Helene', but they will cross pollinate. If it IS 'Helene' you might add it to the Plant Files because there's no photo of that one!

We have had these for over 20 years - I have no idea what variety they could be. They are about 20 feet tall, & I began pruning them only a couple years ago. They had grown like sticks, & I wanted them to be bushier & produce more flowers. I really hacked them the first year, but they didn't seem to mind it at all. After 3 years of pruning, they are beginning to take on the full effect loaded with blossoms that I had intended. As far as I know they grow true - I have been digging up babies for years to give away, but I have never asked about the flowers.
JRush,
Thank you so very much.. they got here today.. I can't believe how many seeds you picked. WOW.
I will certainly try to sow them asap... Also, those extra stamps were for you to keep in case you needed them for someone else.. I should have told you that so that you wouldn't send them back.
THANK YOU.. Antoinette
JRush are there any of these left? I would LOVE some!
Gail
Have any left? I would like to have some if you do. Please let me know so I can get an envelope to you. Thanks!
deb
I still have more left - if more people want them.
Hi Julie
I would love to try some.
Thank you
Linda
WOW! Those are beautiful!
I will get an envelope out to you tomorrow! Thanks!
Deb
Thank you to everyone who has already helped me give out these seeds - But I still have a few remaining. Please let me know if anyone would like some for postage -2-3 stamps is good for 50+ seeds.
JRUSH, I didn't get my envelope in the mail because I was down with bronchitis! And then I forgot (that's what being sick will do to you!) Can I still send it for some seeds now? Thanks!
Deb
Not to crash this thread. I just want to add to it with another deal. I have about 4 plants of this Rose of Sharon, white with the marron center, growing in my work greenhouse. Several of them have about 4-5 leaves on them.
What I am wondering is if anyone wants to trade for something for a plant? I guess I should post this on the Plant Trading thread, but thought people here would be interested in the actual plant.
I would love to trade for a dahlia tuber.
Let me know.
Carol
I want the one in the picture...white with red on the inside!
I can get my postage out Thursday-Friday if that is okay. Please let me know if I am too late!
Thanks so much!
Michelle
Not too late at all! My address is in the extras section. I saved way too many this year & I can offer as many as you would like! Carol - I would post on the plant trading, so someone can offer you the Dahlias you are looking for. I just wanted to offer the seeds to anyone who would like to do the postage. I know there are lots of folks who would rather have a plant, rather than grow them from seed. Then you can catch the eye of a trader who can accomodate you with your Dahlias also. Good luck!
Hi Anymore left??? Shirley
My envelope went out today. Thanks!
deb
Well, you sure did Julie! How many did you think I could plant? LOL!
A Hardy Rose of Sharon farm?
Thanks for sharing.
~* Robin
Just a short note, I got some germination here.. thank you again. Antoinette
Robin - A BIG hedge maybe? Oh well - share them if you can! Each year I collect the seeds from the hedge. I can't bear to see a seed go to waste. I didn't know what to do with the seeds last year, so I planted them in my back yard. I have several hundred one-year old seedlings as well! Shirley - I have plenty left so send me a letter & I will keep an eye out for it.
Hi there! Can I add my envelope to those proceeding to your place as well? Thanks for sharing! ~ Suzi :)
Suzi - Yes, but getting down to the wire on the seeds... I really appreciate that everyone wants these seeds! I hate to throw any seeds away, & especially the Rose of Sharons. I am thrilled that so many folks want to grow them! You won't be disappointed with this plant - I promise!
Thanks Julie, bubble is on the way! They are beautiful and I really appreciate you sharing! ~ Suzi :)
Julie, did you get my envelope? Want to make sure it doesn't get lost somewhere along the way!
Thanks!
Deb
Hi Deb! Yes it arrived at the end of last week. It will go out in tomorrow's mail. It isn't too late to start them!
great! look forward to getting them started! Thanks!
deb
Bear with me - a short delay getting the last batch out. They will go out Friday at the latest!
Julie, do you have any left? would love some.
Thanks,
Vi
I have a few left Vi. Send a couple of stamps & I will get them out to you...
If I run out completely, I can always offer the one year old seedlings as a last resort. But it looks like I have enough for the requests so far!
Gee, I had no idea seeds from my Rose of Sharon's would be so popular! I will be saving this season's seeds for trade next winter!
:~D
Thanks Julie, in the mail today.
Vi
