the increase in activity and staffing levels from week to week now is amazing
the transplant line is in full swing and new greenhouses open every day
the perennial line is going there are still unrooted cuttiings coming in and the seeding is still going on too
easter stuff was going out the door in quantity which is good cause they need the bench space for other stuff
greenhouse day 2
well i know that hydrangea is nothing for you west coasters but it makes me smile to see it when there are mounds of snow on the ground
here are some of the babies i have picked out for myself this year
this is a new (to me) mini alstromeria from princess lilies that i think will do well in my not so sunny yard
Lovely photos again, Lynn. Even though we have no problem growning Hydrangeas in BC, I never get tired of looking at them, Looks like you have a lovely one picked out for yourself there. I have a PeeGee in my front yard and a new Annabelle that is going to a new bed that I created just for her, in the North-facing backyard. They are my favourites. Huge big white blooms. Gorgeous! Can't wait for mine to bloom. At my green house, I set up a display of about 75 Endless Summer Hydrangea. They are very popular, blooming on both old and new wood. Never ending blooms. Precious though, at $35.00. I am still thinking about that one.
Are you still going to be volunteering at Salisbury come the crazy time around Mother's Day and beyond? I have heard that is when the people come out in hoards. I guess I'll find out what that's like this year.
i think i will keep volunteering until i start digging my yard for my pond project but i won't do retail (i get enough customer contact at my own business)
Oh, I can imagine!
Thanks for more great photos Lynn. I love those little carnations. Are they annuals or perennials? What is the variety? I would like to keep an eye out for them in my area.
Susan
You have a great eye, jagonjune. They're beautiful.
annuals i believe - certainly in our zone durtcom LOL
Do you know the name of those carnation cuties?
will find out
Thank-you Lynn
BTW, no rush on that info - had some snow yesterday so I won't be rushing out to the garden centre any time soon... ;-)
Lovely, Thank you!
Lynn, have you guys grown the Golden Coleus, Wizard series? I transplanted mine on Feb 6, as instructed 15 days after germination, and they haven't done a blamed thing since then! Still have only one tiny set of true leaves. Am almost tempted to toss them and start again.
I know your time is limited and I keep throwing questions at you--I understand if you haven't time to get to them.
Re hydrangeas in B.C.....speak for yourself, Donna! I sure can't grow them here (says she grouchily) but then Castlegar has a much nicer climate.
Sorry Rosemary. There I go generalizing again. I should have said Southern BC.
I have grown the wizard series from seed in previous years and had fairly spotty germination. It seemed to take forever for them to be a decent size seedling but then when they did take off it was gangbusters.
having watched what the GH does with rooted and unrooted cuttings, i may never start seeds again (for anything from which i can beg, borrow, buy or steal a cutting). they just seem to do so much better and faster.
Thanks for the photos Lynn. All the little plants look so nice compared with my tiny little seedlings, many of which are starting to get rather long and leggy, despite being fairly close under the lights. Is there any remedy for that? The mini musas look pretty cute.
Looking forward to seeing your pond pics Lynn! Ü
Lynn
thanks for all the great pictures, can't get enough of the great flowers at greenhouses.
Wilma
I'm definitely going to take cuttings like mad, following your description, Lynn. Of course, I don't have the hot water pipes! Nor the automatic misters, but I'm pretty good with spray bottle. If I can remember that often.
Great pictures, Lynn. Luv the King Kong Coleus.
:) Donna
they don't have automatic misters or waterers either in any of the green houses
it's all done by peeps
Great pictures Lynn. Let me get this straight? You volunteer to work there? For free?? LOL, will you volunteer to come work here???
I should really ask if this is a commercial greenhouse or a Bot garden greenhouse?
yes i work for free and am having a great time learning all kinds of stuff
it is a large commercial greenhouse with annuals, perennials and a landscaping division 20+ greenhouses with 5 acres under glass when in full operation
Are you back online now Lynn? Are you still volunteering at the greenhouse?
