Broken Sunray

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

We had a windstorm late this afternoon and I think I would rather blame it on that than my greyhound Snowy.

I finally decided where to plant my Sunray I received from Gagalinfl at the Okeechobee RU. I put it in this weekend and today I find a lower branch broken off laying on the ground. I happen to have an empty pot of soil nearby, so I stuck it in there.

What now? Will this work to root? I've read how easy it was to do.

Molly, that is how I root all of my broken branches. Just stick them in a pot. The only thing I have to start doing is to mark them immediately. I find that I end up with a lot of plants without ID because I can't remember a month later why that brug cutting is rooted in that pot. LOL! Oh, if it has lots of big leaves, remove them. They will go limp and so will the cutting. Without the big leaves, it will have a good chance of surviving.

Thank you Brugie,

I will do that at first light tomorrow morning. And put a tag on it. Great idea, if I can remember the idea.....maybe I can remember the tag. lol

LOL Molly, your mind must be like mine! So sorry. LOL I stick mine right back in the pot it came from so I do not have to tag it. I love to go the easy way. LOL Try to push it down past a node or 2.

Last summer a foot long piece of one of my most favorite brugs, Pure Love, broke off. I almost tossed it because I had such a big pot of it, but I didn't. I pushed it into the side of the pot. Then in the fall I went to root a few for friends. All died. Then over winter I lost my whole brug to winter rot. I had left it outside. The only piece left is the little cutting I had stuck back in the pot. I am so happy I did that.

Keep it moist Molly but not wet till it grows some good roots to prevent rot.
You should have a nice new plant before you know it.
