I had a lovely cutting of Miners Claim that had a great 10" piece of new stem and was bouncing along happily. Well, some neighbours dogs decided to wrestle in the area, knocked off the new growth and I was confident that all would be OK...the plant would continue to grow.
NOT.
It languished for about a month still in the ground...and about 2 weeks ago I dug it up, put it in a gal. pot and returned it to the Greenhouse where it has done ZIP. I don't water it too much, the soil it is in is my starting mix, I have not fertilized it....
Any help out there? Any magic potions, encantations or prayers I could do? Any hope? It has 3 small leaves.
Eternally gratefull - Carol
Help! Miners Claim in ICU
Awwwww Carol, bless your heart! I wish I could help you. I know someone will come along and give you some wise advice. I would just say you've done what you could and now wait and watch and pray for the best to happen :) I know you must be sick that it happened but you are doing what anyone else would do. I will be hoping and praying that this plant will survive. I have high hopes for you ...and I will 'Claim' it, it will survive!!!
Hugs
Julie / BaBs
Thanks, Julie...
sob...
:o) You are so welcome...cheer & chin up *smiles & wink*

Does the piece you saved have any roots? If it does you have a chance that it will put out some new growth. If not you can wait and hope for roots. You have done all that is possible at this time. Good luck
I am new to Brugs, and to have something happen to that particular Brug that you can't buy is heartbreaking, I would say also that if it has roots I would treat it like a newly rooted brug, give it fert. maybe even put it in a slightly wet plastic bag and pray it starts to put out new leaves.
Doris
:~} Thanks for your support. The little darling is on life support...humidity is high these day and I do see little growth...yes, she has roots...it just seems like the new growth is taking so long!!!!
Doris...your cuttings went off yesterday...USPS. You should have them by Friday I am sure...OH...no Mail Delivery? Krikey!! Maybe Sat.?
Carol
Carol, I liked the incantations idea, maybe dancing naked by the full moon with a dead chicken?
Just kidding of course, but there have been times I would have resorted to that if I knew it would work, rofl.
I hope it takes off for you soon. Being a suaveolens, those are usually the hardiest and rebound the quickest, so maybe it does have that in its favor. The plastic bag sounded like maybe a good idea.
The new growth with be slow..Roots thats important.she had put out a new branch and it was knocked off now she has to get strenght to put out more. You have hope good luck
Alohahoya, thanks, I will email you as soon as they arrive.
Well..the largest leaf dried up and fell off (about 1" long" but the others are there.....
Into the Depressurization Chamber she goes...down to 7 atmospheres out to be enough, eh?
LOL
(I am at the end of my rope!!! DH sanding the woodpaneling in the living room (we are spiffing it up) didn't notice that the plastic sheet he hung to keep the sawdust from going into the kitchen (one big room) was too short and the breeze came up and blew billows of the darn stuff...all over the kitchen...counter, shelves, run, art work....Gotta Laugh thru it. If I didn't laugh I would detonate and it would be ugly)...
toodles
Oh Carol, you poor thing, ..... but the "detonate" comment...too funny.
It will all be better soon!
Jackie
I'm available for the "dancing naked in the full moon..."....but I don't have a chicken....will a Gambels Quail do? Jo
Anything with smelly feathers and an awful squalk will do! Thanks.
Ah...full moon tonight...no chickens but I have a hideous duster!!!
Carol
You poor girl, Carol, but at least your are putting your man to good use. LOL I hope your baby makes it.
Sorry for the bad luck, but you may be performing a service of sorts. Sometimes sports have less (or more) vigor than the parent plant. You may be one of the earlier experimenters for this cultivar!
This is also all the more reason to send cuttings to friends, who may return the favor if something happens to your own!
(not hunting cuttings personally, but I do encourage the practice of giving!!)
I 'mall for that, Lagata...but out of 4" of cutting I am hard pressed.
I do share all my new hoyas with a local friend...I know I can get a cutting back and he has the same security...
ay ay ay...Motherhood never ends....does it?
Sometimes I wonder if that is why I got so involved with seedings Carol. Empty nest, all the way across the country. Not much left to mother around here.
Does that register on a "OMG" scale or 'What a lovely thing to happen' scale.
I prefer the latter.
But we do have this 'THANG' about nurturing and wanting to bring out the BEST in our 'kids'.
;~) Carol
Weird, but I spent 3oo hours in a landscape/horticulture class....As the only female!!!! Yet it seems to be mostly women that take the time, patience, and love needed to promote the lovliest of flowers? I didn't understand that then (70's) any more than I do now!
It IS strange isn't it?
I have spent my life growing things and learning about it...trial and error, Master Gardener, Seminars on Tropical Hort. DH, never having planted a thing has taken to planting and gardening like aduck to water...and seldom, if ever, loses a planting.
However, he goes for the BIG things like Palms and Bamboos...you would think he grew up doing this. His tactics may not be what i would do...but he gets good results.
Perhaps it has something to do with Multitasking....?
Alright, dead dogs, or dead parents, they just got to go one or the other LOL, I feel for you, I'd kill for miner's claim, LOL maybe give up a certain part of my anatomy. LOL
