Thought it was time to introduce myself

Germantown, OH(Zone 6a)

I've been a member for a couple of weeks, spent the time browsing and finding my way around.

I live in Ohio, just southwest of Dayton. Lived here most of my life although I still retain somewhat of a southern "twang" from my childhood. I am married with one son, three kitties and a dozen goldfish (at last count anyway)

As my screen name says, I dabble in alot of hobbies but I'm not an expert in anything!! Gardening and quilting is how I spend most my time. But I also enjoy photography, bird watching, antiquing, motorcycling and web development.

My garden is a mish-mash of everything but I am beginning to use more and more natives and many drought tolerant plants (my garden is on a fairly steep slope). I build my first pond three years ago and I am now hooked on water gardening and all the wildlife it attracks.

I do have a website - and I have learned that like a garden, it is never done! Currently I have a page devoted to my pond (and gardens around the pond), a bird gallery that I just started this winter and a wildflower notebook that I am in the middle of revamping.

A guess that's about it, I look forward to meeting all you guys and hanging out with y'all!

I'm so glad that you joined our garden family here. There is always something going on - things to learn, new ideas to try out and of course, lots of plants and seeds to swap. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Hello Jean!

Thanks for the welcome and the invite to the round-up. I think this year I will have to pass, but maybe next year - I hope that doesn't sound rude.

My website is http://www.jandbk.org - there are pictures of my pond there. Sorry I should have included that in the original message.

I haven't had a chance to read all the forums yet, theres alot here! Hope to talk with ya there.

Jean, that website is fantastic and your pond is gorgeous!!! WOW :) My DH is very jealous of your bird pics, he's an aspiring backyard wildlife photographer :) Problem is, we have no birds! LOL... welcome to DG. So glad to have another "local" around!!!

Take care,
Hugs :)

Thank you hugahosta. Keep up with your bird feeding and providing shelter for the birds and they will come! There are still lots of good bird areas in Springboro and Waynesville, they will find you. I'm very new at photographing birds, just started this winter and of course now I want bigger, more powerful equipment (insert Toolman Tim grunt here!)

Hello and welcome from oklahoma. lots of wonderful helpful caring gardeners here..

Hi, Jean!

So glad you have joined DG and posted your website link! Several months ago I visited your website on a google search and was so impressed with it...so it will be good to know you better.

But, I am disappointed you won't come to the RU...this is a first RU for us here in the Ohio Valley and none of us knows each other so this will be an adventure for all of us...

Have you looked up the Rockgarden forum on DG? It's just getting started and probably would be of interest to you and I'm sure you will have much to contribute...

Also (am I getting a little bossy here?), if you are a birdster please check out our April 'firsts' thread in the Wildlife forum. We would love to have you post there, too...

Have fun. t.

Tabasco, I am sorry I won't make it to the roundup. I am pretty busy at work, we have a project that we have been working on for two years and we are in the final stages with implementation scheduled for the middle of May - we still have alot of finalizing to do. The original date was the end of May but they have asked us to step it up two weeks, so we are scrambling to make it. And you know how busy spring is anyway! I really do appreciate the invitation - you can count me in for next year.

I'll be sure to check out the rock and alpine forum, I just put in a rock garden (of sorts) last fall so I can use some help selecting plants.

I have been following the April "firsts" thread, but so far I have nothing to report!
Hopefully with the time change I will actually get home before dark...

Thanks again for the welcome,

Jean

Hello Jean.

Welcome to DG from another Ohio member. If enough of us drive you nuts do you think you will try to drive over? LOL Awww, just kidding. It would be really nice to meet you!

Michele
