Hi,

That really brightens the day.

MollyMc gave me a couple of cuttings. Right now they're rooting and hopefully pretty soon they will be in a new home. How much sun do you give them?

how do you root these?

I have this one to. Luv it. I just stick it in water and it roots fast.

Hum, Donna I tried once and it rotted on me. How big/long a cutting and how much water? How quickly did it get roots. Maybe there's a trick to this.

Me too.....just stick it (4-6" long) in a glass by the sink where it will get some humidity and bright light, but no direct sunlight. Change the water if it starts to get cloudy. Some people add that cut flower powder to the water, but I haven't ever needed that. It could actually be left in the glass to grow, it just gets a big wadded up mass of roots.

can't wait. I love this plant. have it in my kitchen in a hanging planter and everybody always notices.

Hap,

Your Brasil is gorgeous. Mine has been outside in a pot out in the shade garden since forever. It's healthy and strong, but a bit discolored due to the high mineral content in our irrigation water.

I just took some cuttings the other day I am sending out soon. Hopefully when they root and start growing some more, the new leaves will get their vibrant color back.

Gorgeous plant, so well grown, Happenstance. That would brighten the gray, cold, and rainy days here too.

What kind of light do you give it? Same as the cuttings, no direct light? N (I don't think so), S, E, or W facing window?

Got a well rooted cutting recently, and would like it to look as good as yours.

Right now it's growing in very bright light in my sunroom, will soon go outside into a dappled shade patio. It's not real fussy, but will burn in full sun here.

I just take cuttings put them in a gallon ziploc bag, blow it up and put it were it can get moderate to bright light. Do nothing else and in a little while you will have roots, then you can plant.

Yes, it is easy. Mine are in a pot in my shade garden. They grow long runners, hit the ground and put roots in at every joint. I simply cut off the stem back above ground and pull it up. Waalaah. Instant rootings.

judy do you wrap cuttings w/ moist paper towel or just put the cuttings in the bag?

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Throw them in and mist them just a 'little' if you like, sometime I mist some time I don't depends upon if I'm in a hurry... but it is major important to fully expand the bag by blowing into it.

I've had trouble rooting philodendrons so I'm happy to see this thread. I just bought one of these today and I'd like to try rooting a few cuttings again. Thanks for the tip about the plastic bag Judy. I wonder if that will also work for my lipstick plant cutting?

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

The roots are fine compare to those rooted in water, but once planted they take off and I haven't had one to rot. I bet if you misted them with Miracle Gro they would really take off. This method works with jew and all phil vines. I've also put them in the ziploc bag stuck in poting soil. This later method should work with a number of plants. Dino Method I think is where I read about the plastic bag and I'm a ziploc nut.

Cheryl,

I have 2 lipstick plants and I've been a bit under the impression they are almost a succulent. I just take my lipstick cuttings and stick them in potting soil, keep it watered and they do root out.

Plastic bag is an interesting idea. I have some Brasil in a vase right now. I'm taking them to the Florala Round up for one of our members. I think I shall put them in a plastic bag like you described for the trip. No spillage. They already have some roots on them now.
