I have my plumeria's under florecents since I live with the lovely gray skies of the Pacific Northwest. Does anyone know if tropicals and plumaries in particular should get more light than say regular house plants? I have my timers set for 12 hours but the plumies are on a seperate fixture and I could length that if they should need it. I know that plants need a rest time but culturaly do the places plumaries come from have more light longer than those of us in the North? Did that make any sense :)

Winter/Spring Light
My plumerias, which are outside all winter, get light from about 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The longer days and subsequent longer light exposure signals the plumerias that it is time to grow and bloom. I would increase your light exposure by an hour. You could even increase it to several hours more. I know people who have their plumerias in their basements back east, and some of them have lights on for as much as 16 hours.
flourescents are a low energy level light... you might have better flowering if that's your intent if they were on longer and if you at some point got a higher level of light fixture for them... one of the smaller combo units with a metal halide and a high pressure sodium for the flowering would serve them better .. even at a smallish 400 watts.. which is one yu might also be able to live with in the same room.. The 1000 wat light are the best by far... but are almost impossible to exist with..
