Hi everyone,
I've recently acquired one of these darling plants and so far, it's been slow growth. One new leaf per month, or something close to that. Does it hit a growth spurt in the Spring and Summer, when the temps warm up? How do I get the leaves to shine? I have mine about 3 feet away from a West-facing window and it gets bright light and some afternoon sun. When I bought it, I was told the more sun it got, the more pink it would get.(the old more sun, more variegation rule) Some of the leaves are all pink, some are green , mottled with hot pink, and some are purple/marroon, and some are green with grey mottling. Wow, that was a mouthful wasn't it? I've had a problem with the all pink leaves turning brown on the edge. I cut them off, so now I don't have anymore all pink leaves(boo hoo!). Can anyone offer any tips on growing this beauty? Thanks,
GH
Pink Princess Care Tips?
My PP Philo seems to prefer more humidity and very weak fertilizer or none. When I do use fertilizer on my PPphilo I tend to use cow manure tea or water from the fish pond. If I use any other fertilizer it seems I tend to get a lot of burnt leaves, so perhaps that maybe you problem as well, but it could be caused by sun scorch or by lack of humidity???
I do know they are reported to grow more slowly than the average Philo.
If it seems as though it starts putting out more green leaves or green & white eaves try cutting it and rooting the cutting...mine tends to put out more pink & white leaves after a gentle prunning. My plant aslo seems to prefer a slightly cooler spot but many variegated plants do tend to like it cooler.
Hope that helps some...

Yes, MsC, that helps. Thank you for your quick response.
I've had the plants for about 2 months and I've never fertilized it because it wasn't actively growing....didn't want to burn it. I guess I should keep the humidifier going more often in my bedroom, which is where the plant is.
So, tell me about rooting the cuttings. I'm trying to root some cuttings I took from the smaller PP plant. If I see new growth on the cutting, is it safe to assume its rooted, or well rooted? How long does it take, generally, to root in soil? Water? I've heard of some people who put a piece in water and had roots growing in less than a week! I can't get anything to root for me in less than a week!!!!!!!!!!! What am I doing wrong?
