This afternoon in newer ponds

Battle Ground, WA(Zone 8a)

I just couldn't pass up this afternoon's sun on our ponds. They are new (2), and if you look closely you will see a heron trying to grab some of the goldfish that have gotten quite large. Last memorial day my grandsons and I put 50 feeder goldfish in. Over the last 10 months, those who have outrun the herons have gotten quite large! As you can see, I have lots of plantings to do in and around the ponds!

what a beautiful place you have! It's downright pastoral~ :)

Does the fact that I'm a pastor make my setting "pastoral" by definition? LOL
This is the scene that greets us each morning at breakfast, so we definitely
have a leg up as we begin our day noting the beauty for which we are so
grateful! I'll try to remember to get a shot of the "grass" around the ponds in
a week or so. Last Fall I planted it all in fleur de lawn, an ecoturf that combines
baby blue eyes, english daisies, strawberry clover, yarrow, and a very diminuitive
form of dwarf perenniel rye grass. Theoretically it is self-feeding, doesn't need
to be watered, and only needs to be mown every 4-6 weeks in the growing season.
We'll see!

Yes I believe your being a pastor adds to the entire scene! In order to fully qualify, however, you need cows. "Cows! How pastoral!" It's a common saying in our family as we drive by a field of cows. Guess you have to be there to appreciate the humor. LOL
Do you have a resource for your fleur de lawn? We're tired of trying to grow grass on what is supposed to be soil around here. I'm tempted to put in red clover. Actually, I don't mind the moss at all. It's the weeds that are bothersome.

We'll wave howdy on our way down to collect our own Bearcat!

The source for fleur de lawn, which is horribly expensive even when purchased wholesale, is:
http://www.protimelawnseed.com/

I think it is one of their ecology mixes. I planted two acres in it because I didn't want to fiddle with watering and constant mowing (my lawn is a bit over an acre as it is), I wanted it to be pretty (my next door neighbor has 4 acres of manicured lawn - yes, that's right), and it does that wildflower thing that we all enjoy without the hassle of wildflower mixes which need to be redone every other year or so. So we'll see. It gets quite dark green in the summer and can tolerate all kinds of difficult conditions. I think they designed it for highway medians originally. Cheers!

Thanks, Bill. I'll run this past the man around here!
