Kumquat

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I just bought this and wonder if anyone has any hints on keeping it healthy
Should I just treat it like my other citrus?

You are so funny CC. You and your citrus in zone 5a. Such zone denial. Good luck. Do yoe actually like tese? Or are you going to make jam? I bet this was an impulse buy. You know I never do such things. LOL

I drink Diet Rite too, it is the only one salt free and caffeine free.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I have no idea what zone denial is.........ROTFLMAO
and don't tell my lemons and nanas they don't belong up here
what they don't know will never hurt them
I've never eaten a kumquat before.......
but for years I have wanted one.....
don't ask why

I can't beleive you picked out that dietrite
My dr says I have to drink diet soda cause I have high colesterol and high blood pressure
(I hate diet)
Just goes to show ya
you can look healthy, and your insides are not
anyhow
she said to drink diet rite cause it has splenda in it instead of that other stuff

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

So splenda is better for you than the fake sugars??? I had not heard that. And you are right, it does have Splenda.

I think I ate a kumquat once, it was so bittter. I think they make jam with it.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

according to my DR
but who knows...LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You can always add splenda to your kumquats,CC.

Kumquats are one of my my favorite fruits. There is a trick to eating them though. You roll the ripe fruit between the palms of your hands until they are soft which releases the sweet oil of the skin into the sour pulp of the fruit. Then you eat the whole fruit, skin and all. It has a very intense sweet/sour taste, not at all like an orange or tangerine which most people expect because of their appearance.

That was one of the joys of living in Miami, I had my very own Kumquat tree!

crestedchik,

Kumquats are great eaten right off the tree. I had a dwarf Miewa kukmquat trained into a standard like yours. It was 5 feet tall and growing in a 24" pot. Treat it as you do your other citrus trees. Happy eating.

CC and Kell, before u drink those diet soda with Splenda, take a minute to read these links....
http://www.wnho.net/splenda.htm , http://www.holisticmed.com/splenda/ , http://www.mercola.com/2000/dec/3/sucralose_dangers.htm# just in case u do not know. better check if ur drs. know about this too.

i do not drink soft drinks, only water, sometimes flavored with a drop of lemon juice.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

MaVie
good links ,but as far as I can see EVERYTHING we eat,do, and wear is dangerous
plants we touch are poison
soil additives
etc.......
Life is way to short to deny myself pleasures of living
If I cut my life expectancy by 10 years
so be it
I will have had a great life......

but thank you for caring enough to warn us!

I have a variegated Kumquat, and have found it to be very easy....very much like the other citrus....even easier and more ready to bloom and produce fruits!

It doesn't shed leaves when I bring it in during the fall, and it's still holding onto some fruits.

Ick...Splenda literally makes me sick....took me a while to figure out what it was that was making me sick (and...guess what? I was drinking Diet Rite!!)

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Thats how I feel when I drink diet pesi
ill

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

CC... i hear what u are saying. once ur life is put on the line. u will think otherwise. better take necessary precaution than be sorry. been there one too many a time. there are other alternatives to choose from.
