Slug/Snail stoppers

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

We talked about this a while back...just now got my paws on the camera. Once a strip is cut, put it around the base of the plant and fasten it with a paper clip or a stapler...Those nastey slimey things will not go over the rough edges of the strip. Kinda tacky but they can be halfway buried so they aren't that obvious. And they DO work.

I need those around every plant I have in the greenhouse but the plants are so stacked, they can just climb up another plant and get on all of them. LOL

I would step on it. I know it. with bare feet. ouch

Unless you are climbing your plant you won't step on them...you wrap them around the bottom of it...where it hits the soil.

Doris...yes, I didn't have anything new...sob.

I bet brugs standards would do well with this. I have some tall ones in pots that the snails climb all the way up to the top to munch the leaves and flowers on the top.

Gee AlohaHoya I have sent you two about the yellow brug you said you would send?

if the idea is to "attached" to the pot, there is a product in the plumbing dept. of HD called aluminum foil adhesive tape. it can serve double purpose: one to attached to the pot, the other is u can use it as plant label. it has a paper backing at the back that be remove, so u can attached to the pot.

to use as plant label. fold the alum. foil in half lengthwise [do not remove backing as yet.] to make nice cress on foil. open folded foil, remove backing, attached together both folded side. punch hole in one end to be able to insert a piece of string so label can be tied to the plant or hang on a branch. use tip of ball pen to write. this label will never fade.

edited because the site for HD does not show properly. any way here is description of alum. adhesive tape [look like duck tape from a distance] 2 In. X 50 Yd. Aluminum 322 Foil Tape, Model 32200205.

u're other alternative is to use harsh sand, not fine sand. sand can be use as barrier. sand will cut thru body of slug or snail. u can buy @ HD, look for builder's sand. if u don't use all the sand, u can use in propagating cuttings or seeds.

i guess the very reason why the desert does not have any snail or slugs! these buggers will never survive the desert harsh and sharp sand.

Well, I never realized how much I liked them until I saw one around my Kumquat Tree 3 years later...and just like the battery bunny...still working!!!

Here in Redlands, we have (or actually HAD) alot of citrus groves before the city council elected a wanker as mayor. He was here long enough to erect a mormon temple and destroy the citrus farmer's association, then bring in a bunch of developers to start ripping out the groves. The old-timers used to put a copper band around the base of the tree to keep the snails out. From what I was told and it has been confirmed by science, copper carries a smal electrical charge that those slimy assassins won't cross. Occasionally, I still see a few trees that have the bands in them. Now I just wished it worked on the slimy gits we have in the city office before ALL the orange groves are gone. What really breaks my heart is that the trees are in blossom now but you have to drive clear across the city to smell them.
