CLOSED: WANTED: Pampa grass,,,, rooted

Abbottstown, PA(Zone 6a)

I need about 8-10 rooted pampas to finish out my outline of my yard, I got seed but none germinated in the fall. So I thought I would ask for rooted ones. Please check my list and see if there is anything you would like.

I have decided to dig up one of my HUGE clumps of pampas....it's headed for the trash, so if you want it let me know. It could easily be divided into multiple smaller starts.
The full rootball will weight I'd say 25+ pounds, so shipping would not be the normal cheapy $5ish dollars.
Let me know if you want it and it's yours.
I'm not really looking for anything, so if your willing to pay postage that's just fine by me.

Marc
Cant you dig it and break of the divisions to cut down on cost? I really would like the pampa. Maybe you could get as much dirt off as you can.. let me know how much postage will be either way ok.
vicki

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I can ceratinly break it down as much as you'd like....but to get you the 8 to 10 rooted starts that you ask for you will more than likely want/need the whole clump.
I would of course get as much of the dirt off as possible, and will trim down the stalks as much as I can too.
I would say $20.00 postage would be a safe bet....maybe less. If that is doable I will proceed.
If not than I will be just digging and tossing.

Just got thru dividing a clump. Save the clumps from around the outside. the center is dead stock. Postage thru the post office is flat 7.50 priority express regardless of weight. My 2 cents worth. LOL

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Well the center of mine is by no means dead, as it has the largest amount of new growth.
Thanks for the info on the postage, that is fantastic news!

I'll try between rain showers this weekend to get it dug and divided Vicki. I'll let ya know how it goes.

Marc

Abbottstown, PA(Zone 6a)

Ok Mark,, sounds good. I can send you the 7.50 if you send it the way TArogers5 said. sounds good to me,, : )
let me know when you are ready and I will send the money by check if thats ok.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I'll let ya know when it's ready to send. These clumps are lethal...sharp sharp blades. I started cutting it back today, and will continue to work on it between rain showers.

Marc
This sounds like Yucca,, are you sure it is pampa grass? Does it get Fuzzy plumes in summer or does it get a tall spike with little smelly round flowers on it? does it look like this?

i just now noticed myself the "one rate" boxes they have. Visions of huge plant trades danced in my head. YAY for us!

Michelle

Abbottstown, PA(Zone 6a)

Ok mark,, lol was just making sure,,, could you please send it 7.50 rate. Trying to save on postage. as much as you can stuff in the box will be great. Let me know.
vicki

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

There are two sizes of boxes for the one rate shipping. You can't use just any box. You MUST use the boxes the post office designed specifically for the one-rate shipping. So Mark, you might want to check out the boxes. In my opinion, they don't hold very much--probably not your entire clump of pampas. When I first heard about the one-rate shipping, I just imagined sending 30 lb boxes of plants for $7.70. Oh man, I was dreaming up all kinds of trades I could do! I was disappointed to learn that the boxes are kinda small compared to the 32" TV sized box I had imagined. LOL

Marc if Vicki is only wanting the little box worth I'll pay shipping on the rest to get it off your hands. I love the stuff. Just a thought - if she wants it all by all means just says any left overs . . . lets just say my beggar bowl is out :-) Mitch

I will go to the post office at lunch today and check out the boxes......
I'll let ya know how much is left over Mitch, and you are certainly welcome to it.

Marc

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

Thanks Marc - I just love the stuff even if everytiem I am in the garden I get cut up - LOL Mitch

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I love the look of it too, but am tired of working around this particular clump.....ouch! :-)

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Looked on the USPS web site and found the two flat rate boxes.
The 11" X 8.5" X 5.5" looks to be the most promising, but still won;t hold very much.

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

your right Riker, they don't hold near as much as you think, and if you squeez the plants too much they won't make it, I would say your first cost would be close.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I will send what I can safely fit in the box to Vicki.....Mitch, do you want the balance?
What is your shipping cost limit?
Do you also want a $7.70 box with as much as I can safely send?

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)

I would love them - no limit I will get what ever out to you (did I mention I love the stuff?) LOL Mitch

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

Cool! I picked up the 'Flat rate' boxes at lunch today. I'll load Vicki's up and let ya know what's left over. :-)

Lindsay, OK(Zone 7a)
