Which way is up?!

Tillamook, OR(Zone 8b)

I just got some new goodies today, but I have no idea how to plant them!!

Which way is up? Or do I put them in sideways?

A couple more things...

Again, I have no clue how to plant these, and if all the little bulby things on the ends are broken off will they still grow? Are they supposed to look so dry?

Thanks again,
Raven

Oops, forgot the pic...

I'll bet they would do just fine planted sideways.

That's what I'd do, plant them flat, cover all with soil.

Yup - that is correct! The gloriosas should be planted flat. Just lay them on the soil and cover them with more soil. Water them and then don't water again until you see growth emerging.

Thank you much for your help everyone! Off I go to lay them flat!! Seems like a really odd thing to do, will they grow up from both ends then?

Thanks again,

Anyone have any ideas about the curcuma? Is it supposed to look so dried out? and if the bulbs are broken off will the plant still grow?

Shouls I make a new post about this one?

Yes, plant them sideways. And be prepared. Mine multiply like crazy. Carol, I have a couple of tubers I just dug up if you want to trade something.

Raven,
Gloriosa lilies grow like weeds here for me. And no matter how you put them in the ground they will correct themselves and grow upwards.
