American Cranberry Pruning

Well, it's that time for pruning. I went out to the viburnum, american cranberry I planted last fall (I lost the tags so can't tell you more info than that) with my pruning shears and I hunkered down to prune and wherein I noticed that all the branches and twigs have... bud? Leave buds I guess. I don't know the correct term.

What to do? Do I still prune it down? I only clipped off a few tips here and there. If now wasn't the time to prune, when should I in the future?

I have an American Cranberry that I planted 5 years ago and I found the best time is in the spring before the leaves form, while it is still dormant. I prune it to keep it at about 6-8 ft. and pruning it in late winter/early spring hasn't hurt the flowering or berry production. Thats also a good time to give it some food, I prefer old coffee grinds, compost and bone meal which works great for me. Remember though, never prune more than 25% from a tree to keep it healthy and prune to an outward facing bud for better branching. Gil.l

Yes! I finally get to start feeding my plants again!

I bought this big guy from home depot's end of the year sale for just a few bucks. I also bought a red twig dogwood too. They were fixer uppers but they both look like they made it!

are you sure you aren't talking about my yard? I got my cranberry at K-mart at the end of the season sale 5 years ago and last year I added a red twig dogwood to my front yard. I guess great minds do think alike!! Gil.
