OK the Maya deed is done!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I watered my tree Maya well last night to get it well hydrated for their trip across the country.

I cut off all the suckers, so there are 3 or 4 good size trunks with the Y intact on the bottom of the box. I put the smaller pieces on top. I laid all the cuttings going both ways so I could get much more in.

I did cut off the flowers but not many leaves. I am sorry Scoot, I just didn't have time, I was going to be late for a St. Patricks Day luncheon and I had the food! LOL So you will have leaf clean up.

Gee kell where are they going? All to Scoot

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Of course no way they were going to fit into that long PO box. At first I died. For I am a procrastinator, and I knew if I did not get it out today I was in trouble. But then I decided to take 2 boxes and tape them together. So instead of a triangle I had a rectangle with double the room!! See, I am not as dumb as I act. LOL

Any way, there are enough for people to get 2 or 3 cuttings each, I would think. I only ask Scoot, to send them to the regular (including our regular newbies) brug forum members first before to others from other forums. I hope all our newbies who have already posted on the brug forum feel comfortable to join in. I will leave it up to Scoot on who else she has the time to mail to.

And thanks so much Scoot, this is a lot of work. I know I have done it a lot myself. If this works out, maybe a newbie will want to do the same for Rosamond or Pink Beauty or Big Yella. I am about to cut those way back and I will have lots and lots of cuttings of those also.

LOL Doris, YEH, Scoot is starting a Maya store. Noooooooooooooooo, she volunteered to send them out for me. Why I am not sure. What a sweetheart. So if you want some, let her know.

I think there is also going to be an experiment. Our first Dave's experiment done as a small group. We are going to see what effect the environment has on this brug.

Hopefully Scoot will post here and let who ever is interested in getting some cuttings how she wants it all done.

From whence the idea came:

thay look wonderful. some people will be very lucky to get one.

and look at the flowers. Beautiful!!!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Kell, Maya is just loaded with sweet smelling flowers! She's gorgeous!!

If you have a couple of cuttings to share, I would love to add her to my Brug collection. I don't have this one....yet! :~)

That is so nice of you gals to do this.
I'm certain some of your Maya is going to make some newbies very happy!

Kell, Are you aware there is a flat rate box and you can pack it full of cuttings for one price. The box is 12X14X4 inches but you can stuff it full for one price. I think it's $7.40 or $7.60 unlimited weight.

Adrian, MI(Zone 5b)

Scoot I would love to have Maya. I have a snowbank that hasn't grown all year, and is about shot. I will gladly send you postage right away.. I would be thrilled to grow Maya.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Maya? You are kidding?

I would LOVE one...really and truely...I would LOVE one. (see form on floor begging, forehead on the ground...quite disgusting, but, hey, for that?....).

Scooterbug...what a neat thing for you to do...I would really love one (did I say that?). Ok...repeat that again...

Thanks, Carol

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh yes Kin, those boxes are just great. I used them to send stuff to our soldiers in Iraq at Christmas. I so over stuffed them that the average box would have cost me $25 in a regular box. I loved it!!! I felt I was making money on each box I sent. LOL

But these were too many for just 1 or even 2 boxes and I kept the stalks intact thru the Y on the suckers so some are 2 to 3 feet tall. Scoot can figure out what she wants to do with them. I thought she may want to keep a bigger sucker for herself.

Anyway, Shirley, Scoot is the boss not me but I am sure she will add you to her list. .

Great Kell! I should have know you would be aware of this....LOL
That's so Funny~ When I send off these I get the same feeling!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Kin, I only know about it because another Daver clued me in at Christmas. I was so thankful. I really saved me a lot of money!!

~ Another reason why it's good to be a member @ Dave's!!!!!
I couldn't get these boxes at the post office so I had to order them. I ordered the two different sizes of boxes and got two boxes with 25 of them in each!!! I then had to figure out how I could fill them all.......LOL..... :-)

I didn't of course. I took half of them to the Post office so other could Enjoy.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

We order boxes from USPS...and then give some of them to the Post Office here who has NONE!!!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

I sure would like to be on Scoots list.
edited to say I am a newbie, and registerd and hope you see this.

AlohaHoya, thats a great idea, I have about three boxes full of boxes and our post office dosnt have any of the bigger sizes, except as displays then they tell you you have to order them. I think Ill ask them if they want some.

Kell if we want a cuting is this the thread to post it on because I would love a cutting of this.

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Oh..you guys know I need a cutting of this and what a wonderful trial area here in beautiful S.C. !
charlotte

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

thanks Kell for the follow-through
If nothing else, I'll see what the postage was when it arrives with Scoot and will reimburse you.

Well, we should probably pick an appropriate name for the thread covering this trial.

My original thoughts were to prove/disprove the idea that leaf variegation will differ according to temps. Of course it's said flower color/intensity for brugs is also affected by temps which is seen with some roses too.

So the cuttings should be distributed around the zonal map, right?

Another thought crossed my mind. Kell, is your maya planted in ground? If so, how old is it and what lighting is it used too? That info might play into any failures we have.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

This is cool!

This sounds really interesting, is there a way to get a list of things that we would need to note to help keep a record? Is this going to be really scientific or just do what we always do and see what happens from there, cuz if I have to start testing soils and stuff Im going to have to back out, no time and too blonde, LOL.

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

i would love to have one as i have just been searching forever for one.

Scoot wheres the list???

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

IMHO, the growers should treat their subjects just like the rest of their brugs.
Just make a record of how and where you do it.
In my case, that cutting will have to be rooted first and will be growing in a pot indoors till the end of May. By that time I'll have decided whether to grow in a pot all season or if it's one that will go in-ground and I'll also have a site selected with some afternoon shade.

Edgewater, MD(Zone 7a)

Gotcha, thanks *ft

Scoot:
I would love a cutting but it looks like you have plenty of DG'ers wanting them. If you should happen to have one left, let me know cause I am dying for a start.

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Good Morning !

As I already posted on the "Varigated brugs" thread that if you want to get in line for a cutting .....please ..........

Email me here at DG with ' Maya Cuttings' as the subject line.

This is easier that sorting thru a whole thread looking for requests and possibly missing one.

Requests will be filled in order recieved.

( You need to be a subscriber to DG too )

Deltona, FL(Zone 9a)

What a sweet thing to do...This is going to make some very happy brugers.. I have two of Maya and she is lovely...Again how very nice. Good luck to all that get this wonderful brug.

Goshen, OH(Zone 6a)

Wow Kel how wonderful that you sent out so many cuttings.
Scooter I am sure your have my name on that list alreay LOL.
8ftbed, started this idea about expermenting in different zones growing Maya and I think this will be something interesting for eveyone. The data collected should contribute more knowledge for all of us. I can wait to see all the results.
JoAnn

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

OK all y'all ,

I'll not post until the box gets here and I see how many cuttings I will have.

FYI , I have a paypal account for those that would rather do it that way.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

DO what? Where? Now?!!!!!! I am there! I 'm thinking of flying over there to pick them up...beat your door down...I'll huff and I'll puff....

Hope against hope...fingers and eyes crossed....

Carol

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Carol!

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

LOLOLOL! Carol you are a true hoot!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

AlohaHoya, that's a great idea, then you can drop off that yellow at my door on your way there, and have a cup of coffee !!!! on your way back.
scooterbug, Paypal works for me :)

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

All cuttings have been spoken for . Thank You

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

Just a thought. If this is to be an experiment to determine the growing conditions in different environs then perhaps a modified version of the great seed growing form Scooterbug posted would be appropriate. Then all of the data would at least be in the same format.
