Hello! Just joined from Texas.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi, everyone! I actually joined a few weeks ago and have been so busy reading and responding to topics. I've belonged to a lot of gardening groups and I must say that this is by far the most friendliest group ever!! I've met a lot of wonderful people here and I, and some of my gardening friends have a "new" forum started here. It's the "plumeria forum" and it's going to be a lot of fun!!! No matter where you live, you can grow these beautiful flowering plants! As you can probably tell, plumerias are my favorite plant/flower. However, it's not the only plant I grow. I grow plumerias, hoyas, nepenthes, palms, cycads, alocasias, gingers, heliconias, orchids, lily's, ferns, succulents, and whatever else I don't have. LOL:) I can't wait to meet some of you!
Don't forget to check out the "new" forum for plumerias!!! I'll be extremely active on that forum and look forward to helping everyone!

Thanks,
Randy

P.S. Below is a flower from my "Kimo" plumeria. ENJOY:)

Welcome, Randy,

Good to have a plumeria expert on here; I love them and have 3 planted at my house in CA. So far there are just a few leaves on them and they have never bloomed.

Thanks for the welcome, TLC. Are your plumerias planted in the ground or in containers? They need heavy feeding during the spring and summer with something like "Superbloom". When I first started to grow them, I just gave them regular liquid fertilizer. I didn't know that the regular fertilizer would just make them grow and not bloom.
I researched and asked knowledgeable people and they told me about using something like "Superbloom" to force the plumerias to bloom. Since then, I only feed them with "Superbloom" and it really works! I don't use the "Superbloom" on my cuttings, because they need more nutrients to help them grow roots. "Superthrive" and "Spray N' Grow" is excellent for rooting plumerias. I also, spray the leaves during the growing season with "Superthrive" or "Spray N' Grow".

Hi, Herbie!
No problem, TLC! There is also a granulated plumeria fertilizer that feeds your plumerias over a 6 month period. It's a slow release formula called "Texas Star" fertilizer for plumerias. I don't know if they sell it out of state, but California has a lot of plumeria vendors and organizations. A local nursery there may have something for you to use. If not just buy a fertilizer with a "high" middle number ie: 10-60-10. The 60 is the amount of available phosphate; which forces bloom production on plants. Some exceptions would be hibiscus plants. Hibiscus need a "lower" middle number. I've learned the hard way over the years! LOL:) I always wondered why some plants flowered like crazy with "Bloombooster" and the hibiscus just stayed healthy and green! LOL:)

Take care,
Randy

Randy, Welcome From Texas....
I'm in Jacksonville, East-Texas. Lived in Houston for tooooooo many years....lol
I'm also new to DG, but not to gardening. I have 4 Plumerias and several Hoyas that I've been babying for a couple of years, and It's time I learned more about them. Thanks for letting me know where to go for my answers. I'm mostly a 'Japanese Morning Glory' addict. But also grow just about everything I can get my hands on. Emma

Hi, everyone! Thanks for the welcome :)
Hi Emma, is Jacksonville near Nacodoches? The town name sounds familiar. I grew a few hoyas for the past few years. They were some that were given to me. Last summer, I went crazy and now have about 45 different varieties. I have tons of plants and grow just about anything I can't kill! LOL:) I also have a morning glory, but don't know the name of it. Here's a picture of it. It has only one color of flower and it is a deep velvety blue.
