2 Kinds of Jatropha

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

I'll start with the wee ones. 2 seeds, 2 pots, planted at the same time. Yesterday, the one on the right looked like the one on the left. Overnight it popped up its little head. Still has dirt on it. These are Jatropha Multifida (Coral Plant), seeds taken from my trees out front. Very common down here, but hey, when I find something I can germinate........

Here's a picture of the tree the seeds came from.

The second is Jatropha podagrica (Buddha Belly Plant). This came from Buried Treasures.

The remarkable thing here? Yesterday it was merely a little belly with stalks, a bit of the blooms showing, no leaves. This morning I woke up and low and behold, this is what it did.

I'm just amazed today at the growth spurts the plants are experiencing. If I had the time to sit and stare at them I could probably see them get taller by the minute.

I bought some jatropha multifida in liners. Right now they are just sticks. No sign of any budding, but they have not shrunk. I am wondering if I should repot them to 1 gallons before they sprout.

Chuck,

I don't know how old your plants are, but were they from seed or cuttings? Either way, they may well be busy growing beneath the soil before they put out the energy for top growth.

Several times today alone, I tugged sticks (cutting of something I've forgotton), thinking they were failures. Oops, there were roots down there. I replanted them and apologized for the intrusions.

So we exercise patience. heehee, what's that.

Molly
