CLOSED: Wanted-Aconitum-any

Lachine, MI

Hi , i'm looking for any Anconitum...bicolor,napellus,rubellum,alba,stainless steel or others also Verbascum- any colors.
I have to trade:(i like to trade for more then one plant at a time)
green standard hosta
feather reed grass
peonies(mixed colors)
miss muffet daisy
aquilegia(mixed kinds)maximillian sunflower
white and purple creeping phlox
tall garden phlox-pink
sundrops
scarlet trumpet vine
purple bellflower
ingwersons geranium-pink
ligularia-desdemona
dames rocket(wild phlox)- purple-white
sweat pea vine
sidalcea-party girl
sixteen candles mallo-pink

Hi,

Is your 'sixteen candles' mallow perhaps Clethra alnifolia 'Sixteen Candles' ? I'm looking for a mallo with that name, but can't find one. Also, do you know the cultivar of your feather reed grass? How big does it get?
I've got Aconitum 'stainless steel' that I can divide. I also have some verbascum, but don't know the variety. It's very tall and yellow. These have a huge taproot when mature, so only the babies can be dug. I'd have to say that since they are babies, you'd be taking a chance that these are definitely what I say they are. Unlike the aconitum , these freely seed themselves so the mother plant might be nowhere in sight.
What do you think?

Hi Melissa-
I really did a goof- Its a pink malva and its called Sweet sixteen- sorry about that! Daughter's B-day is coming( I think that was on my mind- ;-)
The Feather reed grass gets to be 5 foot tall. It stays stiff even through winter. I will have to look up the cultivar of it and get back with you.
Plmk-if your still interested.
Saundra

Hi Saundra,
I don't think I'd be interested in the feather grass, it's too big. But I'd be interested in the Malva 'sweet sixteen' and in your creeping phlox. (Now that, thanks to Daves Garden, I realize it needs a more alkaline soil, maybe I wouldn't kill it.)
I do have some babies that I'm fairly sure are verbascum. Regarding the Aconitum, I can take a chance on sending you some, but I've just remembered that it's tricky to divide. It doesn't like to have it's roots disturbed. What I'd try is to take some off the edge of the plant and hope to get enough soil with it that the roots don't notice. I wouldn't guarantee that it would make it, though. Although I think you can also do cuttings of aconitum.
What do you think?

Hi Melissa,
Trading for the creeping phlox and sweet sixteen are no problem.
Would you by chance have any colorful yarrows? or painted daisy? If you did maybe We could trade for those instead of the monkshood? plmk
Thank you,
Saundra

Hi Saundra,
I have plenty of yarrow, mixed colors. Actually they grow well here but I don't get the kind of rich color I'd like. I do have 'moonbeam', which is very lovely if you don't have it. The leaves are soft grey-green and velvety, and the flower is a buttery yellow.
I also have plenty of Sysyrinchium striatum (Yello Eye Grass) which mixes beautifully with yarrow.
Here's some of the plants I know I have plenty of:
Alchemilla mollis ( Lady's Mantle)
Veronica peduncularis 'Georgia Blue' - lovely ground cover, not invasive, deep blue flower
Fringecup - a woodland flower
Anemone japonica - white or pink
Siberian iris - blue leaning toward lavender
Juncus effusus 'unicorn' - a water plant, curly reed
geum chiloense 'Mrs Bradshaw'
Euphorbia 'Red Martin' - this is a seedling.

Here's a photo of the 'moonbeam' . It's the pale yellow tall flower in the photo.

Let me know if you see anything you like!

Hi Melissa,
thank you sooo much for the choices!
I would be very interested in the yellow eye grass, red martin, veronica(georgia blue) geum, verbascum and any of the brilliant yarrows(no yellows- but thank you!)
Would you like to do a big trade?
I also have lemon lime and fire glow euphorbia, columbines, geraniums, echinops(blue) and Centaurea(blue)Soapwort and rockcress(purple) or is there something else your looking for?
I would like as much as you can spare of any of it!
How many clumps of the creeping phlox would you like also? And how many clumps of the sweet sixteen? plmk-
Saundra

OOOH, a big trade would be cool. I'll have to look through my pics of the garden last year to see if I can figure out the colors of the yarrow. They are all intermingled so I'll be glad to send you a bunch but I likely won't know what colors they are. I can send you lots of yellow eye grass. It's really quite nice. It's short-lived, but it reseeds so easily that I always have lots of it.

What is the lemon lime you have? I'm not familiar with it. I would really like the fire glow euphorbia. Also what geraniums to do have, and what soapwort? I don't need columbines, unless you have something really different like an unusual color or form. I have echinops, but I'd be interested in the rock cress.
I'd like a couple of clumps of the sweet sixteen , and a couple of clumps of the phlox.

I'll be glad to try to send a bit of the aconitum just to see if it makes it. It's really a very cool plant

I'll be outside today, so I'll see if I have anything else to offer! Looks like you are looking for full sun-type stuff. Oh, I have tons of foxglove. (Digitalis purpurea) and also a little of the Digitalis ferringuea (did I spell that right?) It's a tall yellow/brown foxglove that has tiny flowers on a large stalk.

I'm new to this trading thing, and it's way fun so far! How old is your daughter? Mine will be 20 next week. YIKES!

Hi Melissa,
Sorry it took so long to respond- B-day festivities for son in law! Daughter will be 19-(where does the time go?-LOL)
The soapwort is just the pink, the geraniums are ingwersons(bevons variety-pink flower) and magenta colored also. The spurge is called lemon-lime(it has green foliage-lime with yellow blooms-lemon). I also like shade plants, hosta, jacobs ladder, astrantia, brunnera's and others...
Let me know what all you would like to trade! Yes, this is very exciting- My first year too! My plants will be in the dorment stage...but I will be sending very nice sized clumps!
I have purple bellflower too, primrose in pink and yellow, nepeta, tansy, stella Doro, and yucca.
PLMK-
thank you,
Saundra

Hi there,

I would love to trade my verbascum "Southern Charm" for your sidalcea "Party Girl", if you'd be interested. The seeds I started last year of Party Girl did not make it for some reason, and I love it! Now, of course, DH installed 4 4ft long growlights inside and I have been a seed-sowing fool, no worries about seeds not making it!

My verbascum are currently about 4 months old, kept under growlights and grown from seed. They are now in individual peat pots growin' like crazy. They have about 4-5 pairs of leaves each and some leaves are 3/4 the size of my hand already. They will bloom this year.

Let me know if you'd be interested, thanks!

HI Saundra,
I think we better get this organized because I'm getting confused! LOL too many choices!
Okay - Here's what I have that you like:
Yarrow ( I have paprika )
Verbascum babies ( I checked and there are many)
yellow eye grass
red martin euphorbia (just a plantlet, but has a couple of stems)
veronica(georgia blue)
geum
hostas (I have several different kinds and they're all coming up now.)

Here's what you have that I like:

Malva 'sweet sixteen'
creeping phlox
lemon lime euphorbia
fire glow euphorbia
soapwort

Got anything else? Here's some general needs/wants and don't needs/wants: I need mounding shaped plants for full sun, or tall blues or reds. I also need stuff that stays green in our mild winters. I dont' like dark yellow flowers, have a zillion roses. I can also use 'billowy' plants that fill in visually but are light and airy.

I have lots of Nepeta 'walker's low'. Is your nepeta another variety? Also, what are your primroses? If you know the latin name all the better! Do you have other daylilies?

We're getting there!
Melissa

Lilaclily -
Right on with the grow lights! But I have to ask - being fairly new to this forum - what does DH stand for? I see this in posts frequently but I have yet to figure it out.

What else did you plant? I've got many, many seedlings myself. Maybe we can work something out!
Melissa

Hi Melissa,
Yes it gets confusing-LOL but it is so worth it after!
My primroses are siskiyou pink and very bright yellow. Columbine is lemon queen. Catmint is the same as yours.I do have Catananche-blue, and blue flax(linum), dianthus-chedder pinks, german statice-white(limonium-latifolium), astible(mix of white, red) and potentilla-strawberry plant in red and yellow, ornithogalum(star of bethlehem) and physostegial(alba and virginana)forget-me nots,thymus-mother of thyme, and cotton lavender.Oh and sweet williams(mixed).plmk-
We just have to get you all set now! I am very happy with the selections you've offered!
Saundra
p.s. i am about 3-weeks from being able to send-still have frost yet in the ground, weather is improving by leaps and bounds tho! Is this a problem?
Thank you!

Lachine, MI

Lilaclily,
A trade would be very nice. As above tho- I'm still a ways away from sending- any problem with that?plmk-
And how many in a trade? Thank you so much for responding! This is such fun!
Saundra

Lombard, IL(Zone 5a)

Saundra,

That is fine as it is still pretty cold here by me as well. I have 2 verbascums if you would like to trade for 2 sidalceas, or 1 for 1, or however you'd like to work it. Just let me know!

Melissa,

DH stands for "Dear" or "Darling" Husband. I've got sooo many seed flats that I have no room. Among the seedlings thriving are:

Limelight 4 o'clocks
Summer Carnival hollyhock
Double purple daturas
Bachelor's buttons
4 different kinds of cosmos
Double petunias (lovely ruffled blooms)
Double snapdragons
Coleus
Foxglove "Foxy"
Hibiscus "Southern Belle"
Blue Catchfly
Annual phlox
regular snaps and petunias
Mignonette strawberries (they say this is the kind that the French put in their champagne, ooh la la!)
Creeping thyme
Alyssum

These are just the ones I started indoors under the growlights! Nevermind the perennials I wintersowed outside!

Hi Saundra,
Sorry this took so long. I had to *gasp* work today.
You can add to my 'wants' list some of the Star of Bethlehem, limonium latifolium, and cheddar pinks (can't have too many of those).

I have many kinds of hostas, but don't always keep track of what is what. Is there a color combination you like? You know - green leaf with yellow rim, or blue leaf with white rim, etc. I should be able to tell which is which fairly soon.
No problem with waiting until your spring to send your end of this deal. I can wait. But I'd like to send my end soon if you don't mine potting them up. We are well underway in terms of the growing season here. I'd like to dig things before they get too excited about the weather!

Looks like you have about the same number of 'wants' on your list. I have one more than you. How about two different hosta varieties? I can send good sized clumps of everything except the euphorbia, which is a small plant (but will grow fast), and the veronica, which will be more of a medium sized clump, like what you'd get in a 4"pot at the nursery. The yarrow that I'm sure is Paprika will be about the same size, but I'll send you some other Yarrow that is mixed colors (I hope!).

Let me know when I can send things your way.
Melissa

Hi LilacLily,
I took a 'head count' in the greenhouse. Here's what I have:

4 oclocks Alba
( I got these from Select Seeds and there were only 25 in the packet. I'd be willing to trade 4 of them, which would give you some nice plants and a bunch of seed for next year. Here's the picture:
http://www.selectseeds.com/cgi-bin/htmlos.cgi/0097.6.35022692187212410716)

Also have 4 O'clock 'custard and cream' from the same place. I can trade the same number of these.

Larkspur 'Earl Grey' - also from Select Seeds. I have lots of these and they're all growing nicely.

Nicotiana Langsdorfii - I could trade about 15 of these

Nicotiana 'Perfect Mix' - I have lots of these

Jasmine Tobacco - lots

If you are interested in anything I have, I'm interested in your 4 Oclocks 'limelight', Foxglove 'foxy', Hibiscus 'southern belle', and the German Catchfly.

Let me know if you are interested.
Melissa

Lachine, MI

Lilaclily, that is fine 2 for two! Keep in touch and we'll trade soon!
Saundra
Thank you so much!

Lachine, MI

Hi Melissa,
Thank you. If you have any big leafed hosta that would be great or any of the blues.
I will add the other things to your list from the above email.

Look in your private email my address will be there and then please send me a private email with your address!
I am so looking forward to our trade!
Its been such fun!
I will also keep you posted as to my time frame of sending as it gets closer!

Pixydish,

The only seeds I have left are the Limelight 4 o'clocks. I sowed everything else and they are growing well but still too small to think about shipping.

Out of the 20 Hibiscus seeds I sowed, only 14 germinated and I need all 14 of them for what I have planned already, so unfortunately I cannot spare any seedlings as I'm already 6 short of what I had planned. :( Sorry about that.

If you remind me in a few months, I can send you some of the Foxy seedlings, the package says they bloom 4 months after sowing.

No problem at all. When I started actually counting mine I was surprised at how few I had of some stuff, too. When I look in the greenhouse it looks so full!
Thanks, maybe another time!
Melissa

Lilaclily you have mail- its time to send

Lachine, MI

Melissa,
Its time to send-you have mail

Lombard, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi Sandy, I got your e-mail and I must say I am confused! While I really would love the sidalcea, I had really wanted your creeping phlox on 'that other trade site" too and you had told me then that my verbascum seedlings were too small for what you had in mind. Just wanting to make sure you knew they were still the same seedlings (they're a little bigger now). Also, it's just shy of 2 weeks and I was aiming closer to the 3 weeks you had previously mentioned. I'm just now starting to get my yard in order..... I've got 30 roses coming and my first priority is to get them into the ground!

Let me know, and thanks!
