How are your seedlings doing Wilma?
seedling are not up yet,,
started another batch this week.
But my plant is doing great, going to have to bring it upstairs this week-end
and take a picture, as the camera is coming home tonight..
Looking foreward to the picture Wilma...
Is it blooming Wilma? How exciting.
looks good
How tall is it Wilma? It looks good.
Sandy, when you are on your way down to the RU, stop into Dinter nursery just south of Duncan. Della has lots, and most have a Y to them. She got them in the fall. That's where I got mine.
Ladies your plumerias look lovely! Ü Won't it be marvelous if we can get them to bloom!! Let the feeding program begin!!!!!!!!
.........and one in particular has really grabbed my attention. ;) Thank you Linda! Ü
well what is best to feed them with?
please do tell.
There is a specialty Plumeria fertlizer that can be purchased (from American Companies.......needing of course U.S. dollars and really awful shipping fees). Miracle Gro Bloom Booster was suggested to me. Our Liz just feeds hers 20-20-20 and hers has also done very well (it's bloom twice for her now).
This is a recent thread on the subject: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/492073/
Perrynguyen of Flora Exotica also sells Pumerias.......not sure if he sells the specialty fertilizer tho. http://www.floraexotica.ca/
Here's the thread where Liz told me about her Plumeria: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/421627/
Thanks Pam
guess I better start feeding mine today
Wilma
I just bought some Schultz liquid Bloom Builder 5-30-5 with micronutrients. They were talking about fertilizer on the plumie forum and said to use a really high middle number. They also said liquid and crystals that you mix with water are better than the slow release kind. I hope it works as I have high hopes for some flowers this year.
Thanks Nightowl
good to have alla the info we can get, so maybe some of our plants just might bloom this year..
I really, really hope so!!!! Think some of us in the lower zones might have a bit of a wait if our Plumeria has just Y'd tho.
I guess that means I'll really have a long wait because mine hasn't even Y'd yet.
Speaking of Y's though, I just noticed that one of the plants that I got from Jeanne looks like it is getting a Y. The plant is just over 3' tall. I think it was a cutting that has never bloomed. What do you guys think...is this the start of a Y?
Mine bloomed before it Y'd Sandy. A Plumeria cutting tends to bloom first (if it's been well fed) and then Y.
I'm not sure if your Brug is Y-ing....can you take a picture of the top at another angle?
On July 27 Kell posted really good pics of what a Brug looks like when it's Y-ing (pictures are about 2/3's of the way down this thread). http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/390845/
The Y will occur right at the top of the plant.....the main stem takes off in two different directions.
In this thread my B. Maya shows how the plant looks from above after it has Y'd: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/449846/
Okay, I might be a bit premature in saying I have a Y. I'll wait a few days and take another picture. I don't know about that second link Pam. I think you were just showing me more fabulous plants that I want like the Blue Butterfly Flower and the Passiflora.
LOLOL.......it's the 28th posting down. I don't have the picture on my puter any longer and to upload it and download it takes too long. The picture shows how the plant has Y'd four times.......I don't often see a picture taken from the top down.
The reason I'm not sure about your plant Y'ing yet is I can see a really healthy sucker but I can't tell if the main stem itself has divided into two right at the very top of the plant.
Aha, the unknown brug that is now known. That one didn't just Y it W'd or something. There's such a big difference between that one and mine because yours had already grown so much after it Y'd that it's difficult to see where the Y is.
Yep had to update the name.......Joelle bought from the same source I did and had it id'd. I wish I had taken a picture with the leaves pulled up but it does show growth is the same on both sides of the Y.
Ya, now that I look back at my picture I can see that the growth isn't very even so that's probably just a branch developing on the one side. Sigh...I guess I'm just wishing too hard. :-)
It's definitely a Y even though it might not look the way they usually do. The newer leaves are uneven and there are teeny tiny little buds.
After reading your wonderful news Ü....I think I should have asked you if your plant was from a below, or above, the Y cutting Sandy. ;)

Well, I don't know for sure since, like I said, it's one of Jeanne's plants, but I would assume it's above since that's where most people take their cuttings. It would make sense because the plant is only a little over 3' tall. I believe that they Y sooner if they are above the Y cuttings.
That they do......but I was assuming (bad thing to do, I know ;) that yours was a below the Y one. So many here have wanted to grow the trees so I thought that might be what yours was.....the B. Maya I posted was a below the Y one. I do like the above the Y for the quick blooms myself. :)
Some below the Y plants can Y very small but no guarantee there (unless you receive it from the seller with a Y already started).

great news Nightowl,,
someday it will bloom for you and I can't wait to see pictures..
Sandy, just FYI, Liz has Clerodendrum Ugandense (Blue Glory Bower), (BlueButterfly Flower). She is sending one to the RU for me. Plants of Perfection also carries them.
