Thanks Dave,

I only have 2 plumies, a pink and a rainbow, that I got as sticks this past winter. The pink is getting good leaves, but the rainbow is slow. I'm so excited about these.

This is thew year I get LOTS of blooms (at least that is what I'm telling myself)....Last year I got one small bloom spike on only one of my 7 Plumies. A couple of them have already started breaking dormancy, so things are beginning :-)

wel mns2lv4ever, here's hoping that both of our rainbows bloom for us this year. We'll have to have another flower god like Randy has, maybe that'll do the trick.

I was really pleased to see this plumeria forum get started. I'm new to growing plumerias and would definitely benefit from the experiences of others who are growing them.

I have one that I got as a cutting a couple of years ago. It took a long time before it finally got established and started keeping it's leaves instead of having them all turn yellow and die. It's about a foot tall now and has 7 leaves. It's been in the solarium all winter where the nights get down to 14 C. I think it's starting to grow again. I have no idea what colour it is. I've had some minor problems with spider mites and mealybugs so I check the leaves regularly and use 70% Isopropyl alcohol on them if I see any bugs. I've also started misting the underside of the leaves on warm sunny days.

I also have some seeds that I've just started, using the information from the plumeria101 website. I think one is starting to germinate. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can get them to grow. I never dreamed I'd be fortunate enough to get some seeds so I'd sure hate to lose them.

I have one that is 4' and is yellow/white, one that is 5' and never bloomed, and three unknown cuttings. Thanks, Dave, for giving us this forum!

Remember, guys, Randy is right. Plumerias are heavy feeders so as soon as your plumies starting waking up and have time to adjust to the outdoors again, hit them with fertilizer and lots of it. Superbloom is great because it has a high middle number. They need to have the food in order to bloom. I would say that fertilizer is more important than the full sun or part sun question. Other plumeria lovers swear by supplements such as Superthrive and Spray 'N Grow.

Also, plumerias are tough to root in the wintertime, and rainbows are the toughest to root. It is much easier to try to root plumeria cuttings in spring and summer when it is warm out. Bottom heat will help to speed the process along. Here is a great site for information: http://www.plumeria101.com/

Hi everyone. Right now I haven't planted my sticks yet. I received one from Hawaii for Christmas, it's hot pink. And the other day I was given two white with yellow centers and a white with red stripe. So now I'm at the very beginning of my Plumie journey. I have some Brugmansias and I'm batteling spider mites. What is a good way to get rid of them? Isn't alcohol hard on the plant? I'd like to get the problem under control before I plant my Plumies. This is my little Native Guy.lol

Luckpup, cute Native Guy. Randy was talking about spider mites on another thread. He says he wipes the leaves with alcohol, and it works well. We also talked about a Bayer product that you can find at Home Depot called Bayer Advanced Formula for Flowers and Roses. It comes in a blue bottle which contains granules that you water in to the soil. I use it on my Brugs too when they get Spider Mites. It usually clears the problem right up. Plus, once they are outside, you'll be able to hose off the leaves on a regular basis, and that should help as well.

I gave a plumie to an AV friend of mine. She says it died - too cold where she had it. I said wait wait - have patience ---- guess what, today little leaf is reported. Yay.

Inanda - hoping that ones from RU are growing well in CR and Moose Jaw.
