Irresistable, with or without a name!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

As I've commented before, every so often I think, I am just going to stick with named varieties of AVs! And then I spot a really gorgous one at Home Depot or the local nursery, and suddenly I don't care at all if it has an "official" name, I just fall in love with it, and it comes home with me!

Here are two of my no-name plants, in full bloom right now!

The double pink flower is more rose/lavender in tone than the photo shows, but I couldn't get the color balance fiddled correctly without turning the leaves blue! Note the interesting "girl" leaf on this one.

and here's another, that DH got me for Valentine's Day. The white thumbprint on the violet-purple flower seems to fade to purple as the flower ages, but that really is a white splotch on that bloom in the photo, not a highlight from the flash.

That pink one is so pretty and so is the purple.

I've started some leaves of the pink one, but I already have a couple of plantlets spoken for.... hoping to get more than a couple, though! Two leaves are starting babies now....

I'm thinking once seed trading season is over, it'll be warm enough to ship AV leaves or plantlets..... hoping we'll get some trading started on this forum! :-)

Critter, I would love one of the pink. I use to have a minatures on my East window that was always in bloom but because of a serious of events and before I purchased a computer I eventually tossed them.

I got started on AV again when I was given a variegated AV. I had never seen one before. I am trying to propagate one of the leaves since I started reading the information on this forum.

I can see I will have to root some more leaves! I have 3 leaves going now, but so far it looks like just 1 plantlet per leaf, and those 3 are spoken for.

Opinions on whether it's better to trade leaves or plantlets?

I've heard leaves ship better, but of course plantlets will get to flowering sooner.

I like getting leaves. They're cheaper to ship, too, and you have the satisfaction of growing the plantlet yourself. Although some people seem to like to avoid that step!

I saw one just like my double pink one at Lowe's today.....

not named there either, of course!

I have the exact same double pink/variegated one and I was swinging by the av forum just now to show yall! Here's mine-it's finished blooming, but it really is a gorgeous plant. You can see the last blossom in this picture although its a little washed out. :-) Susanne
