Postage

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

Can somebody tell me something...

If the PO knows that it takes .49 postage for a bubble envelope, why don't they make .49 stamps? Or even .12 stamps??? It's like they have everything but! I cut up the envelopes pretty small to save paper and I just can't fit all those stamps on the darn thing!

Taylor, TX(Zone 8b)

YES!

I have asked that before, too. My PO did have 12 cents stamps once, but not anymore. When I go in for 49 cents postage what I get is a stamp and a bunch of 1-2 centers. IT IS RIDICULOUS!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

The USPS counter worker I asked had no idea why not. Maybe few people send anything under 1 oz. in a BE (they do make 60 cent stamps). I ended up with a sheet of 37 cent stamps, a sheet of 10's and a sheet of 2's. I share your frustration; it's annoying!

I've begun to use a 40 + a 10 cent stamp recently. Takes away the hassle!

I just knew it!

Decatur, IN(Zone 5a)

I buy two .23 (postacard) stamps & one .03 cent stamp.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Sometimes I just pay the postage at the counter and the postmaster does the .49 with his handy-dandy machine and put that white sticker on - like you get for larger boxes. Works great!

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I normally use either a $.50 stamp or a $.37 and a $.27 together....only $.01 over.

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

Marc, is that the new math? LOL

Washington, PA(Zone 6b)

LOL

RikerBear,

Where in the world (actually the USA) do you get 50 cent stamps?
My Post office says that they don't exist. Yet someone sent me one in a bubble mailer; and I forgot who it was.

I'm with Witch, its a conspiracy, and I'm betting the Russians are involved.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

There is a .50 stamp according to my post office. Just haven't gotten them yet. I work at a government facility that has a post office on station about 300 feet from my office so I just mosey over there at lunch every other day and mail things out.

I buy 50 cent stamps, too, Rikerbear. They are the licky kind. I believe there is a female aviator on them. They work great and I can afford the extra penny, I guess. If you guys figure out why bubble wraps require a 49 cent stamp but they don't have them, maybe you can also figure out the mis-match on the number of hot dogs vs. buns in a package.

This is nothing new. Back in the 1940s. During the "BIG WAR" my mother would wrap up things to send me in a box. She would take it to the post office to be mailed to my APO address. At times a clerk would tell her she hat to: "tie it with string", "seal it with tape" or some other inane thing which was claimed as regulations. She would simply take it back home, return in a day or two to a different clerk and the same package, without any alteration, would be cheerfull accepted. Often the left hand does not let the right hand know what to do, or why. This is true of nearly all business not just the Postal Service.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)
