Somewhere back when (my small bear brain has skipped that part) there was a discussion over a leaf with little yellow spots on it (picture of leaf was posted, I believe) and in the center of the yellow spot there was "like" a tiny bite mark. Sound familiar? Can someone refer me to the post?...or tell me a reason for the spots?...the leaf then yellows and looks awful. Rust? Thrips?
TIA
Carol
Anudder ?
Hey...I answered my own question by taking a leaf to the Plant Pathologist at the Extension Service: it is a fungus called cercofera.
One remedy is a copper spray. I have heard conflicting reports: has anyone tried copper sulphate on brugs and does it burn them?
TIA
Carol
What causes this fungus? I've never used copper sulphate on brugs before. Not sure what it is.
Hi Shirley...dumb of me not to put up a photo - will do tomorrow.
Cercofera? I know we lost all the artichokes we planted to it. It is in certain soils...it seems. Around here it doesn't surprise me because of our rain and relative humidity (normally around 60%).
Strange thing is that some of my new brugs haven't a spot of it!!! It shows up as a yellow spot, with a dark (dead) center about the size of a pencil eraser. Smaller yellow spots don't have the dead center...soon the whole leaf turns yellow.
Perhaps I should take my Brugmania more slowly...see what brugs handle the wx and which ones are fussy and dainty. Monster Brug seems to be one that doesn't get it...yet.
Sounds nasty. Anything like Black Spot on roses?
I reckon ! Fungi puzzle me...they are ubiquitous and elusive...selective and random. I think I will just nuke the ones affected and hope for the best on the others. The REALLY effective solution costs $200 for the remedy....too rich for my blood.
Isn't copper sulfate what we are supposed to srpay our fruit trees with in the winter? I do not think it is that expensive. Why not try it?
Do you mean "cercospora"? I read somewhere that 69 species of this fungus live in Hawaii. If I'm not mistaken, this is the anthracnose that is killing the dogwoods in TN. The SL garden problem book says to use Daconil or a fungicide containing chlorothalonil or mancozeb.
Trust me to confuse the spelling!!!! Thanks Cala.
I am checking it out with the Plant Pathologist this morning....will let you know what he says about treatment...a gardenstore manager told me to use the Copper Sulphate.
I found some Cleary 3336WP we must have used before...so the PP said to use it. Will let you know.
Carol
Good luck Carol!! If it is not one thing it seems to be another!
Isn't that the truth!!!
