Veltheimia

The Veltheimia bracteata only has two bloom spikes this year. Last year it had four. But this year they are on four-foot spikes! One of the spikes is snaking around, so it might even be closer to five feet. It also seeded an offspring a couple of feet away this past year. I was surprised.

Thought I would post a pic of the other bloom now that it has opened further. Kind of a subdued color.

Nice bloom! Everything looks so lush there! How old is your plant? I read that it can take years for them to bloom.

Shelly, mine was blooming when I bought it. I think it has been in the ground for four years now. It is actually three or four plants now. They lose their leaves in summer though--that's why I think they're not too popular.
