here is the general state of the vegetation in untended areas

Lynn,
Welcome back; thanks for posting these pics. It's so sad to see.

Oh my.......we saw the pictures on the news but I wasn't aware of how long it's taking them to recover from the devastation.
Any idea how long people think it will take to get rid of the salt so vegetation will start? Are there many properties like this, still not rebuilt?
Did water wash over the entire island, from one side to the other or was it mainly on the one coast. I presume this was 7 mile beach?
Inanda who enjoys the pic of things that ARE growing.
the place that is so devastated is ocean club which is not on seven mile beach but on the way to bodden town in the east end. that is the area that was hit the hardest.
the places where people have watered a great deal, the salt residue has washed away faster and landscaping (including golf courses) is recovering. but water is a precious resource as there is no fresh water source on island; it all comes from 3 desalination plants.
the water didn't cover the island but there are a number of canals between reclaimed areas of land that are low lying and in those areas the sea rose over the banks and flooded to the 6 foot level.
i will bring the dvd with me that one of the hyatt staff gave me on our last day which has footage before, during and after the hurricane
wow, I look forward to seeing the dvd
we are truely fortunate to live where we do.
You watch it on the news and you're horrified and feel really badly for the people but then it fades from the news....out of sight out of mind. You forget and don't realize that the effects are still being felt so long afterwards. Thanks for the insight. Using the water on the golf courses....but then I have to think about the fact that the tourism feeds the economy so I guess it all makes sense.
