Blooming Begonia

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

I love this plant for it's foliage and now I am also loving it for the blooms. Isn't it gorgeous?? I think it's a Angel Wing, but it also matches the pictures for Cane Stemmed. What's the difference? The pot was a gift from my mom from her trip to Maine, which I also like a lot. Just thought I'd share :) Susanne

I also have a question about the flowers. If you look closely in this picture I think you can tell, but are the two flower clusters different sexes of flower? I am supposing that one set has the stamens and the other has pistils?

No body knows eh? I wonder if there's a more appropriate forum for begonias?

Post this over on the Identification Forum. I'm sure you will get a reply. Wish I could help but the only ID I can give my Begonia is: blooming, not blooming, dead. *grin*

Hiya Artg...they are the same thing...just different names for the same type of begonia. Cane and Angel wings are one & the same plant.
Here's a link with some information that maybe helpful:

You are correct in the two flowers being different sexes...there is more info on the link above that will explain the differences and much more about the Begonia family. If you need any other info please let me know & I will gladly help all I can.I have had a wonderful collection of begonias for years and they are a joy to grow.

Beautiful plant in your picture!

Thank you Ms. C! That's a neat link- I'm going to spend some more time looking through it tonight. I'm glad to know some basic info on it for now though! I got this one and one other from the Biology dept's plant sale at my university about 2 months ago for a couple bucks. I am really enjoying them so far. Thanks again! Susanne

Your welcome Susanne!
I love begonias and yours is beautiful.
The link has tons of general info on it for begonia lovers and it is well worth the time to read some of the articles and info there.
The one thing begonia's hate is over watering so be careful of that & your begonias should thrive & bring you great pleasure.
