When to pot up?

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

These Rosamond's are still in cells, should they go into a bigger pot? These are my first brugs from seed and I want to do right by them!

Your kitties are so cute!!! Is that a mom and her baby? Or twins?

I may wait a bit to pot them up. But if you do, just make sure your soil is fast draining and do not water until the soil is dry.

You can gently lossen one from this 6 pack and see if the roots have filled their space. I f not, wait. In my zone since spring is here, I would probably not hesitate to pot it in a deep 4 inch pot, but in your zone, it may take a while for it to grow into its new pot.

Aaawww, your Rosamond is so cute and being admired by two of the best critics! :~)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh just to clarify, you probalby already know this. They are not Rosamonds, but probably Rosamond crosses. They may look similar to Rosamond, but not exactly like her.

Sequee - looking good! I still haven't started any seeds but am about to turn my attention to them now that I have a good selection of Brugs.

I cheated!!!

Sequee -- they will be fine in that pot for a while. You want them to have a pretty extensive root system before you transplant to a bigger pot.

I have some datura seeds. Should I wait to plant them outside or start them inside? I will be planting them in zone 7a.

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

OMG - You are not going to believe this! One of the babies died! I just don't understand it! It looked so strong and perky, and now its wilted beyond salvation! I am so upset!

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Did it drown or get damp-off. You know everyone here uses chamomile tea for damp-off.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Sequee, don't toss it, sometimes they do perk back up, but I don't know of a sure fire way to do it - maybe someone else might know of an emergency treatment. I hope it will be okay!!

Not looking at all good...

Ooh, it is wilted but honestly I've seen some like that that have come back, it is too dry or too wet? If it's too dry, I'd try SuperThrive - if it's too wet, you know, I'd say, dry it out but I'm not sure there is a product for one that is too wet - I did have some that were water logged and I dug them up, repotted - but mine were not seedlings, they were much larger brugs....

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm not real sure what happened here. They had outgrown the grow light, so I thought I would move them right in front of the light fixture, where they'd still get some heat from the lamp as well as getting direct southern exposure from the big window. It possible they caught a draft when I had the front door open. Or I may have watered. I'm so sad - I hope he recovers, but I'm not at all optimistic...

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gee I can't see the picture. Just terrible. Are you sure the light did not fry him? Sometimes lights are very hot. If too wet, slip him out of his pot and let him dry out. Though it is probably not going to work on a baby. But if too dry, soak him in water for a minute or 2 to inflate the soil. Then put him in a wet but drained plastic bag, close top severely. Sometimes this will bring back severely dehydrated plants or cuttings

Carmel, NY(Zone 6b)

Nope, not dehydrated. Either too wet or it may have caught a chill when I left the back door open for a bit!

I didn't even have the heart to look in on him this morning!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

Oh, I am so sorry, I have been there too, so I feel your pain.
I hope you get a miracle when you do check.....try the SuperThrive, you never know.

I know exactly how you feel Sequee, but don't toss it. I'd do what kell said - I had some that stressed last year, and followed her instructions and they perked up, but they were rootings, young but not babies. I've learned more from my mistakes than anything I've done correctly, always remember brugs are very forgiving (esp to live with me) and, it ain't over, till it's over. Every move will not disappointing, just hang in there...

A very kind DGer just offered me a rooted cutting, so I'm not totally devastated! I just so wanted these guys to do well. There's something special about planting a seed and seeing it awaken into life! Nope, not gonna give up.. The stem actually looked strong, it's the leaves that appear to be gonzo. That's why I'm thinking they got a chiull.

BTW - I planted 6 seeds around Feb. 3, is there still a chance the other 4 will come up?

Thanks for all of the support - I WILL have brugs this summer!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I wish I knew about seeds coming up, Sequee. The first ones I planted, Jan3, starting coming up almost immediately, no lights, no sun, and I got almost 100% germination. Seeds started about the time you started yours are just sitting there - nothing we can do, I don't guess, but wait it out...

Update...

Mush guy doesn't look so good ~:-) and I don't think the biggie looks as good as he did either...
