Red Lavender?

Columbus, OH(Zone 5b)

I absolutely love lavender, I noticed J&P has a red lavender "Kew Red" (Lavandula stoechas)
Does anyone here grow it?
Is it really red?
Some pictures I've seen look more fuchsia and some actually look red.

I tried it last year in a pot. They didn't make it, but it could have been Ohio's weather.

Did it bloom for you, Jennie? If so, how "actually red" of a red was it?

Love J&P's latest catalog, BTW.... Too $ for me right now, but what gorgeous plants!

That's my question too... is it really red?

Brisbane, Australia

"Kew Red" is not actually a red........ More so a plum/mauve colour.
The colour red does not geneticly appear in the lavendula species.
GREAT for marketing though don't you think?

This strain was either bred or was a chance seedling at Kew gardens (England). I can't quite remember. I beleive it's a form of Stoeches (Italian lavender),
A species of Lavender that is commonly confused here in Australia is "Sidone" pronounced "Sid-doe-knee"
It is still after many years promoted as "Australian lavender" and thus many a devoted native garden fan rush out to purchase one.
There is no species native to Australia.
It appeared as a chance seedling hybrid between two species Dentata and canariensis. Aparantly, they named it after the grandaughter.......no-one can be certain of that.
Sorry to bore you , I just find the heritage of where plants originate facinating.
Take care
