root bound hoya in clay pot

New Iberia, LA

I know I will have to break the pot but should I soak it first? Roots are growing out of the bottom and are attached to the pot..It is a mac and it is very large and in a 3 inch pot.I didn't think it was going to make it and it did and now it's very large.Someone told me to just crack the pot all over and remove all I can after soaking it and then place whats left to the pot inside a large one ? Can this work? TIA,Dianne

That advice sounds really good, Dianne - I wouldn't have thought of that, but it would work. Hoya roots, in the wild, will go around and tolerate anything...and it would be better than ripping the little feeder roots off. I would soak it for a long time...and try to break the pot into the smallest pieces possible....

Good luck...let us know how it goes, OK?

Well it's potted up and I would like to say hoya roots are like super glue,it soaked for a hour and those little roots weren't cutting loose not a peice of pot..So it should be intresting down the line..I found that peice of mac on the floor and I had stepped on it and I stuck it in the pot and for sum odd reason it's larger than it's Mother plant,Maybe I should break off another peice and step on it?? LOL Hey Randy I'm only 4 hours away from you!!! My husband keeps going to the drag strip right outside of Houston and he keeps saying It's only 4 hours away!!!..Thanks Carol I will be able to visit your website next week....the pain of staying away!!!! it's like having a greenhouse and no plants..Did I tell you we are adding another 10 foot??? LOL

YAY!!!

I am convinced Hoyas have their own timetable...growth schedule etc. I have had cuttings do that for no rhyme nor reason....
