A funny thing or two about Hibiscus

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil(Zone 11)

So I moved in early november, and by that time the terrain on the other side of the street was clean, some grass growing here and there. A month later the grass became tall. Then, having a walk there to see what kind of plants were growing there, what wasnīt my surprise when I saw a hibiscus. A volunteer hibiscus! It was amazing, I didnīt know H. rosa-sinenis would grow here without any help.

So I took a cutting right away. I took 2 cuttings actually, each having 3 mature leaves and no flower buds. It was 3 months ago. This week I checked out them and noticed a flower growing on one of them. And then it opened today. The flower was quite small compared to the original plant. It made me think if it is possible to keep a normal Hibiscus short and make them produce tiny flowers that would be small copies of huge ones.

Here are the pictures. The fist one is a shot of the original flower.

Here is my 3 months old cutting of that plant.

And here are the original plant, to the right, and my cutting to the left. Notice the different sizes of these flowers.
