You gotta check this plant out this month if you live near Los Angeles... what incredible flowers!

Was this taken at the Huntington Gardens? Do you know the name of this species. Norma

That should answer both of your questions Norma :)

Whoa! What a plant! I wonder if there are any in Tucson I could check out.

Awesome! Thanks for the photo. I have a tiny one here--probably needs a couple more years before it is big enough to flower.

This is from a different Puya than P chilensis - at least this one is not labeled.... though I guess it could be the same species (until flowering many look alike)... those p chilensis flowered in April last year. And their flowers were bright green while these are turquoise. But good question Norma... would love to know for sure what species it is... as it was NOT labeled (my unending irritation with the Huntington... so many great and weird looking species are just not labeled there... probably because no one knows what they are... but if some does, it would be SO nice to have a label to go by).

Doesn't Puya berteroana have the larger turquoise flowers also?

I'll tell Gary Lyons, it's his job to get those labels on. Why don't you call and inform him, I wonder it that label is hiding under those dead leaves. Those flowers are a vivid turquoise. In fact I talked to Myron Kimnach about this about two weeks, ago, he would like you to call and make an appointment with him and point out all the mislabeled trees in the Palm Garden. Perhaps you will know all the new name changes. I think John and Gary would welcome your help as well. I just got I think an minor errow with a Sedum, but I'm not sure but I plan to point it out on Tuesday. They know the names and they have all 80,000+ labeled and documentated. Norma

Great picture. I'll try to ask John T when I see him on Tuesday. Norma.
