is now available from Charely's Greenhouse. I just received the latest catalog and was surprised to see both. www.charleysgreenhouse.com page 83

Eleanor's VF-11 & Messenger
I haven't used VF-11 but I am thrilled with Messenger. Will have to look VF-11 up...are they comparable?
Carol
Awanda,
Do you have a mail order source for Hormex? I always bought it from Mellengers and they no longer ship.
Eleanors VF-11 is said to be all purpose fertilizer. It is supposed to be used alone after all other fertilizers have been removed from the soil. I foliar feed with VF-11, but, use other products as well. That said, I have never determined if it is a "cure all" product.
I use Eleanor's, Greenlight Superbloom & Superthrive and Spray n Grow, not all at the same time. I trade off with watering. As with all products, there probably isn't a "cure-all" for everything, just whatever works for each of us. Eleanors is good used as Mel said as a foliar spray. I've seen Hormex at local independent nurserys around here.
Blessings,
Awanda
Hey, Mel. Harry's garden center carries Hormex, as well as other rooting and cloning agents. Here's the link http://hydroharrys.com/catalog/product_info.php. They carry a lot of hard to find fertilizers and cloning agents.
I agree, Awanda. Superthrive and Spray N Grow all the way!!!!!!
Randy
I recently sprayed with Messenger/Bloom Fertilizer on the plants I wanted to bloom, and Messenger/5-1-1 Fish Emulsion on the ones I wanted to grow. 5 days later I am amazed...peduncles forming, peduncles forming buds...all the plants look really healthy.
I see now where they are different...
Carol
Thanks for the info, Randy!
Mel
I am a ferm beliver of Messenger.
There you have it!!! David, by far, is the Guru of growing hoyas indoors in a cold climate...and little by little we are learning his secrets!!!
Thanks David....
Carol
I just want to stop in and say hello to all, I haven't dropped out, I am still interested in what you are all doing, I just can't it at this puter any length of time. So pop in and out of all my forums. Spring is here and they are starting to flower, so send pictures for us all to see. Crasulady2 dba Norma
I think spring is in the air...13deg. this morning!!
Nice to see you posting, Norma! I am glad to know you are well!
I thought I would let you guys know that Harrys Garden Center rocks! I sent in an order in the morning and had a e-mail saying my items were shipped that afternoon. That kind of service is amazing! Thanks again for the referral.
OUCH, 13 degrees? That hurts!!
Mel
Carol , in an above post you said that you use Messenger/bloom on plants that you wanted to bloom and Messenger fish emulsion on ones that you wanted to grow. I'm still quite new to hoyas and have never fertilized mine with anything other than MG.
Lets say I have a plant that I want to see grow and bloom, would it be advisable to use both Messenger products on the plant at the same time?
Sorry...didn't word my post correctly... When you mix your regular fertilizer...say MG...you mix the Messenger in with it. I use MG also on plants I just want to grow and bloom...maintaining themselves. I mix a bloom fert and add the Messenger to it when I think it has enough growth and I want to see the blooms to verify the ID or get an ID and I mix fish emulsion and add Messenger to it when I want to encourage growth. I use this theory on all my plants...not just the hoyas, by the way.
Aloha
What is MG ? I am using messenger. And boy can I tell it. So now I am fixing to order more. And you say I can use it with other fertilizer? :)))
Hey Binky...MG = Miracle Gro. But you can mix any fert. with the Messenger.
Yes...I like it a lot (Messenger)...Usually the first blooming on one of my plants has been one or two umbels.... Now they are 4 to 12!!!
Aloha
Wait...still not making any sense....What I left out is "Foliar Fertilizer". Most you can foliar spray with...but some are BETTER applied to the leaves...like Fish Emulsion and some bloom stuff I use.
Carol
I always use Fish Emulsion as a Foliar Fertilizer...and never use MG.I find MG has to much of a salt build up.
David, I always felt that too!...still do, in fact. I use it only out doors where we get so much rain, I don't worry about it....and I only use it foliar spray. In the GH I use a seaweed extract or fish fertilizer - or whatever I have to use up!!! LOL
I bought some Messenger and sprayed *several* plants. about a month ago..nothing's happened/happening. Hmmm...
Nan...have you maintained a fertilizing schedule as well?
Yes.......same as I always do!
I'd read many good things about it and fully expected to see some kind of results, but....nothing.
I've been growing plants a long time and have a good sized collection, so the only conclusion I've come to, so far (I'm still watching, though) is that it just plain doesn't work.....but maybe it just isn't working.....*yet*.
I sprayed it on some ailing plants (whose conditions I'd improved before I sprayed) and on some healthy plants....I didn't spray it on any hoyas.
I mean, they're growing, but then again they usually are this time of year....spring for my indoor plants seems to begin around the first part of February.....and they begin growing anyway, so I can't fully attribute new growth to the product, because even the plants I didn't spray have new growth.
Oh....btw....please realize that I'm certainly not knocking the product, just reporting my (lack of) results. I'm still hoping to be able to report some good results, myself!
I just don't know what to think..........
Hmmmm, did you repeat the treatments every 10-14 days? I didn't, until recently. Maybe I am imagining things!!!
Carol
Are you *supposed* to repeat every 10-14 days?
I didn't see that written anywhere....unless I missed it?!
I didn't.....should I?
But, dang....I'll go broke(r), lol!!
Thanks, Carol for helping me figure this out!
Hi Friends;
Just a reminder about applying Messenger.
Spray as a fine mist to get good (not perfect...just good) coverage of the foliage. Think "heavy dew". More than that is a waste.
So 1 gallon of spray will treat a LOT of plants that way...1000 square feet of low growing plants - 40-50 good sized tomatoes or rose bushes. It works out to less than 1/2¢ per square foot of garden. Less than the fertilizer you are using I'm sure!
YGF,
Jeff - from Messenger
