Ms Scarlet must have heard me talking about her over on the thread where I posted the picture of Inca Princess.
There are FIVE buds on her, anywhere from 3-5" long. She'll never be the prettiest plant on the block, but I'm giving her another A+ for trying.
It's very shady on that side of the house in the PM, but way too sunny in the AM for pictures, so I apologize for the quality of the image......but look-at those peppers!!!!
Jumping Jalapenos! The "Scarlet" Kind !
I wish I could see it, sounds like a fun one!!!
Beautiful, Keep us posted on her blooms

Looks good to me. Hope they open and are gorgeous.
The DO look like jalepenos!!!
Carol, before I read your post, I was thinking the same thing, that they look like jalapenos.
They are very cool...I hope they open up just beautifully!
Can't wait to see them when they are open.
Way to go, girl! Peppers in March....who would've thunk it??? :~)
So this is Ms. Scarlet? I am not familiar with that one. I hope it is scarlet!! LOL
Kell this is the same red that I've had for a couple of years. Think it came from Alden Lane and was labelled "Scarlet." I don't think it's a valid cultivar name, but she's stuck with the name cause she has no other. Last year the buds only set during very hot weather with only a couple of nice results, none of which were really "scarlet", more reddish orange. Supposed to be 85F here today, so we'll see if she fries or hangs on to the buds.
One of last year's successful buds:

Carol.........anxious to see this years blooms. Keep us posted!
Oh she is a sang? And a very pretty sang I can see! I hadn't recognized that from first picture. Was this an Annie Annual plant?
I can't wait to start my nursery rounds again. Maybe I can get in a few before I go to the East coast. Though the last time I was at Alden Lane the fungus gnats were so heavy as they swarmed above the 6 packs. I asked about them and was told they were normal. LOL. I had never seen that before at any nursery. I will go to that one in Dublin you told me about, that chain. I can't remember the name but they grow their own plants so they can have brand new varieties. So exciting.
Hey Kell -
I think we've talked about this before and I don't remember whether it was an Annie's plant or not....it was my first trip to Alden and I was in a daze! But it very well could have been.
Gnats and normal don't belong in the same sentence, as you and I both know. :-)
I haven't hit much of anything except the locals yet either......need to get over to Orchard of Lafayette, they always have great (albeit pricey) things and great displays. I'm trying to hold off until after next Thursday when DH, DD and I go to the SF Flower Show.......we always find great things there.
I managed to do enough damage at Navlet's and HD this morning........came home with a good sized Brug labelled 'Miner's Claim', supposed to be salmon, but I bought it because it has great looking foliage. Very pronounced variegated foliage of chartreusey gold & green. Will see if it's the real thing, had PPAF on the label.
That one in Dublin......yeah I think it began with an A! Will look and see if I can find the name, I know I went there for the Kong Coleus.....haven't been back since.
Edit: Found the name of that nursery in Dublin:
Armstrong Gardens

Thanks, Doris!!! Beautiful buds, such a healthy plant, I cannot wait to see the blossoms!!!
I am sure we did Candy, but I am lucky to remember what I have much less what someone else does. LOL. I just saw your Miner's Claim. Mary (mmqc) bought one of these last year fromt he Navlets in Fremont I think it was. I used to go to the one between Pleasanton and Livermore off Stanley, but it closed. I have been to one out in Danville or San Ramon before. That must be the one you go to.
Yes, Armstrong. I think Orchards and Regan's are the 2 best nurseries around here including the Berkeley ones. . Do you have another favorite?
When we lived in Alamo during the 80's I was a very good customer at the Navlet's in Danville, missed them greatly for the 10 years we were in Marin, but visited the one in Pleasant Hill (since rebuilt along 680) often, until they built me my "own" Navlet's 4 1/2 minutes from my house.
My favorites are:
Orchards
The Dry Garden (on Shattuck in Oakland/Berkeley)
Berkeley Botanical
Magic Gardens
Annie's
and a little local one in town here called J &M
She looks so thick and healthy
if it wasnt for the bud hanging off her it looks like a sun flower stalk!
I haven't been to Magic Gardens or the Dry Garden in years. I understand the Dry Garden moved a long time ago and is good now. But now I will try to get to them soon. Annies is fun too. I will have to expand my horizons and go check out your Navlets and J & M sometime. I didn't know Berkeley Botanical had a nursery. Is it large?
Oh I forgot, East bay Nursery, you do not fancy this one?
Also YAMAGAMI'S NURSERY in Cupertino is great as well as HALF MOON BAY NURSERY. OK, I am making myself nuts. I have way too much to do right now to be off on a day trip. Down Kelley Down!
Sorry Kell....what can I say it was late. Berkeley Botanical is great for plants, but I usually just load up at the two sales in Spring and Fall. What I meant to type was:
BERKELEY HORTICULTURAL NURSERY on McGee in Berkeley
http://www.berkeleyhort.com/
And yes East Bay and Yama's are both great too.....so little time, so many great places!
http://www.eastbaynursery.com/
http://www.yamagamisnursery.com/
Another one I usually hit on the way back from Alden Lane is
Tassajara Nursery
2550 Camino Tassajara
Danville CA 94506
925.736.7600
Now if I had a gardener, I would just spend all my time going to nurseries and seeing how I could fit something else in an area that is already too full of plants!
Another place of interest very near the property we bought last summer is
Morning Sun Herb Farm
http://www.morningsunherbfarm.com/
And for water garden plants (it was closed for the day the last time we were in Napa...drats!!)
McAllister Water Gardens
(707) 944-0921
7420 Saint Helena Hwy
Napa, CA 94558
Well Candy, I hope you get a gardener and I hope I win the lottery! Then we both can lead a life of self indulgence. Works for me. LOL
I just wish they would locate nurseries like they do car dealers! Why not a "Nursery Row" with about 20 places all in a row with balloons and flags waving in the wind. I guess that's why I love the SF flower show so much....true indulgence and a way of checking out a lot of nurseries in one sitting. There is one vendor that does the weekend sales on one of the piers in SF (I've never gotten there!), but also does the flower show. Great plants!!
Oh I haven't either!! Since they opened it, I have been meaning to. They were advertising it as a rare plant sale. It is Sundays at the new Ferry Building. I was just there 2 weeks ago, we ate at the Slanted Door. The line at 5 PM was huge. They also have Hog Island Oyster bar there. We have enjoyed that few Saturdays, sitting there and looking out at the bay while slurping oysters down followed with wine. The BEST time. The Farmers' Market on Saturday is so much fun there also.
Maybe I will make it to the San Francisco flower show this year.
