I have a peace lily that is quite large (seems big to me anyway) and it hasn't bloomed recently. The pic included here I took mid-december and those blooms are long gone.. It is in a south-facing window with unobstructed light. About 6 week ago, it dried out, but been keeping it moist every since. Lots of new leaves but no new blooms yet. Last feeding I used ironite and 20-30-20. Is it common for the blooms to cease during the winter months. I may be in zone 8b, but we're as far north as Maine so sunlight isn't that strong yet and our days are still pretty short. Any advice?
Peace lily question
I don't know to much about this but do you think it may need transplanting I know that all the roots could be in a big clump I was trying to get a peace from my friend but it was all stuck together. and its not perky but don't go by me hads all I know

The pot I have it in is 16" across and at least that deep. It's the largest pot with a saucer that home depot sells. The thing is huge. It took two of us to carry it from outside to inside. I know that peace lilies aren't supposed to be in full sun so not sure if that has something to do with it. The leaves are much lighter than other peace lilies I've seen.
The only one I have is growing and has been growing in a table top fountain for the past three years, and it blooms near none stop and is huge.
How much sun does it get? How many blooms at a time are there usually? What kind of fertilizer do you use? I think this plant is around 3 years old as well.
I never fertilize, it gets indirect filtered sun, and has 3 to 5 blooms routinely. I've had to divide this beauty a couple times already as it was way to big for the fountain. :-)
It now lives a good friend's home.....I'll see if she will take a pic or two for you.
From everything I've read about the peace lily, if it isn't blooming, it likely isn't getting enough sun.
I don't think sun is the problem here. LOL. We've had nearly non-stop sun for the last couple of months. I have a couple of scorched leaves in the front of the plant. The only bad thing I did was let it dry out too much and ended up with brown tips on many of the leaves. Starting to wonder if it had outgrown its huge container.
Here's a link that might help:

Kelly,
Thank you for the link. Very helpful indeed. The largest number of blooms I've seen on the plant at once has been 2. My guess is that I have more of a foliage plant. It's definitely not one of the minature species as it's around 2 feet high and has a diameter of at least 3 feet. Reminds me of a hosta :)
Hmm, this is interesting. I've had a peace lily for a couple of years that hasn't seemed to grow much. It's in a 4" pot and I've had it in varying conditions to see if it might behave differently, and I haven't noticed much difference (except when I moved it to a place where I forgot to water it enough. :| ) But this link said that the miniature varieties usually flower more than the larger ones. Are they really slow growers? But now mine seems like it may be a mini. It didn't have flowers when I bought it, either, though... Now I'm confused. I'm perfectly satisfied with mine as a foliate plant, though. It is a very nice plant.
What kind of conditions are you growing it in? How much light, type of soil, fertilizer? Aroids (peace lily is one in this plant family) tend to like being comfortable in pots. By this, I mean that they don't want too much room, but not completely rootbound either. A 4" pot sounds a little small. You might want to take it out of the pot and see if it's rootbound, has a healthy root system (white roots as opposed to brown (rotten roots). Have you checked for any pests? Any time I have a plant that doesn't seem to be putting out new growth, I usually take a close look at it and most of the time there's something wrong. Or you could just have a really slow-growing variety.
My peace lily is putting out new growth, but it's just not increasing in size. It certainly has no diseases or anything, but it's never flowered. I'm content with it that way. So perhaps I do have a miniature variety. I think I got it as a starter plant, labeled "tropical foliage." I should go through and give all my plants some fertilizer (I don't do that very often), and I could try giving it more light, but it had more light before and never flowered then either. All in all, it's probably one of my nicer plants just for the foliage.
I just checked my plant and it does seem a little rootbound at the bottom. Tomorrow I can repot it a size up, and then I can see if it grows in size. Maybe it's not a mini after all. :)
Actually , I have heard that they don't like alot of sun, and from my own experience, when you move a peace lily to a new location, and trim off some of the older, outer leaves, it always blooms...Mine can live in some of the darkest corners of my house and still thrive and bloom. The method of moving it to a different location, and giving a quick outer-leave haircut has worrked so predictably for me, I can make it bloom for the time when, say for example, having a big family dinner at my house, I trim it up and move it about a month before...works everytime..for me anyway...
I know. I've heard the same thing--that they don't like direct sun. I've moved it back a few inches and kept the soil moist. It did get a "haircut" about a month ago and there are now 2 huge blooms coming up.
Yay!
