Monitor resolution

What resolution do most of you use on your monitor? I keep mine set at 800 X 600 as I don't like everything to be small. I would love to get an LCD monitor but most have a native resolution much higher - as in 1200 or so, and they look crummy if not kept at that resolution. My monitor is 19" Viewsonic flat screen and has excellent rendition and I would like to keep that quality but...I really want a flat-panel. Tell me about your experiences with your monitor and/or flat panels.
