First of the year! Hello Spring!
Lavender Lady Time!
Beautiful, Clare and Rich.
Ooooh! Those are a gorgeous color Rich & Clare!
Very inspirational photos!! Thankyou! I hope to try my hand soon at Passion Flowers and be able to add my own photo eventually :-)
How Lovely it is!
Got to go give all my Passi's a talking too and let them know it is spring in the southern U.S. and they need to wake up.
I went by the old farm house and dug up some roots from my P.Incarnata this past weekend and I got a nice long 3 ft root about 3 inches around.
i think it is gonna do well in the new yard if i can keep the moles off it.
Do any of you know if moles eat passi roots?
Never had moles before and i don't like what they are doing to my new yard.
How do i get them to go away?
Thanks, everyone.
RH3708, I don't think moles or gophers or anything can hurt P. incarnata. In fact, if you have something to keep that vine from spreading underground, I think you should keep it. That particular passiflora, as well as a few others, can spread underground and pop up in all sorts of places that you might not want it.
Rh, do you have a cat? My cat used to be pretty good at catching gophers. You could grow P. incarnata in a large container and then sink the container in the ground, but I think the roots would probably find a way out through the drainage holes. If you can get ahold of some other passifloras, I think there are some others that don't spread as much like P. belotii. Logee's has a nice selection of passifloras if you are interested.
Thanks i will try a few things that way to see if i can keep them in check.
The dogs and cats are on the hunt all the time but i don't know what to expect i have never had moles.
I hope with all the dogs and cats i have the little devils will say bye and move on down the road.

I would like to get passis from Logee's but DH said i have to stick to seeds and trades this year and next year he will let me start buying the ones i like.
What with the new house and all but thats cool i got lots of seeds and i know i will get some more great treads.
I'm just happy to know i will have more passi's :}

rh...It has been my experience that where you see moles, dig a hole and you'll find many grubworms. I know that is the food source that kept them in my yard for a few years. When I got rid of the grubs, no more moles.
www.planetnatural.com sells a product named milky spores that will rid you of grubs forever effortlessly and it doesn't kill or effect any of the "good bugs" in the soil etc.. Now I have more earthworms than ever, I don't know if that has anything to do with the other but it sure seemed to go hand in hand at around the same times.
LOLOL The more I learn about our beloved hobby, the more un answered questions I end up with! Go figure. Goodluck!

I forgot to mention. My lavender Lady is the only Passie I have that has bloomed all winter indoors under a monster growlamp. Everything else quit blooming except for a tropical hibiscus and this 1 Passie. Yet another un-answered new question...WHY? LOL
JLD I am Sorry for Hijacking you thread,...And thank you I was digging in the yard yesterday and saw tons of grubs i think i will take your advice and see if that is the trick to getting rid of the little devils.
I had a talk with the passi's and told them about all the pic's and post's and that they are going to be out done if they dont get a move on.
I hope it works hehehe, but really,... i wish i had one that would bloom in the cold months you have a Pretty Passi JLD.

LOL RH. I think we both have hijacked someone else's thread!LOL One NEVER needs to apologize to me about "hijacking" a thread. I see them as being all of our threads and I think I'm the worst of everyone when it comes to off topic posting in threads. I can't seem to help it. I start off with the best intentions only to find I've scrolled the page and rambled on forever off topic.
I think it's a very wise move going with the milky spores, especially this time of year as it takes a good month of warm weather for them to really dig in and start kicking tail. I was told by the people at planet natural if I want them dead now, to use nematodes for an instant kill but it seems that would cost much more than a few cans of milky spores and a little patients. I do know of 1 other way to help immediately in the short term. If you can find smoke bombs like you get on the 4th of July or bigger 1's. I was lucky to have a friend in the HVAC biz and he had monster smokers they use for leak testing on huge systems. put a few of those in a few different mole mounds and 1 tunnel went under a small concrete slab. Man you wouldn't believe all the critter's that came flying out of that hole!LOL 3 garter snakes, 1 blake snake, crickets but no moles! I think they were over come by the smoke as none of them came out. It didn't get rid of all of them but it was nice to see smoke coming from holes across the yard and visualizing the tunnels filling up and those lil suckers suffering an agonizing death!LOL
Milky spores are the true end all IMO. Goodluck!

I apologize for hijacking and will happily edit my thread if asked by anyone, no offense will be taken.
