I'm looking for Lion's ear seeds. I have some seeds to trade or will trade a plant or two. I got some last year , but they didn't make seeds before frost, so I want to get some started early this year. I loved them. Thanks, Lou
CLOSED: lion's ear seeds ???
Send a note to srkrause. I know he has some up for trade.
Lion's ears? What's the botanical name? Inquiring minds and all.....
K
Oops thanks Kachinagirl - I was thinking of lambs ears - duh! I don't know Lion's Ear.
Leonotis Nepethafolia tall spikes with ball blooms and Leonotis Leonurus is shrub like with blooms at the stalk and has very frangrant folage. Both are fabulous. I had some seeds but sent them all out for SASE over winter. I gave big quanities so maybe someone will share.
Lou,
I only have Lion's Tail (Leonotis menthifolia) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/58073/index.html

Ahhhh.........I gotcha! Thanks! :~)
basically the same as nepethfolia one is just short and the other tall. My nepetafloia get 6'
Common name here (at least what I was told) is "Lion's Tail"....thus my confusion. I had wondered if it wasn't some kind of Leonotis. Thanks for clearing it up for me! K :~)

...lion's ear? ME?
Latin name?
Steve
Ah thanks Naturewalker.....Leonotis leonurus is the one I'm familiar with. Common names differ so much by region, no wonder we need botanical names! Neat plant. Wish I had the room for one, I'm too limited spacewise! :~)
I did get seeds for both L. leonurus and L. nepetifolia from DonnaB. I've shared some around already, but I think I still have some spares..... I will check! LMK if you wanted both kinds or if Kim already has you covered. FYI, PF says L. nepetifolia has some fearsome-sounding spines.
Lou, mailman took the seeds this morning..LMK when they come. I did not grow these myself and I sure hope they are what they're labeled..nice looking seeds though...Enjoy!
Kim
Kim , thanks so very much! I hope to get them started early. They were the very last thing blooming when the big snow hit. We had a little hummingbird feeding on them daily. I hope he took off before the snow hit. Lou
Leonotis leonurus
I had this plant, but one winter it did not survive. Not supposed to in Z9, but it did for one winter. I should have taken it in the garage I guess.
Is it a fast grower? I'd like some seed if there's any out there. KimG, don't you have a SASE from me you did not have to use? Or I might just buy a plant and be more observant about bringing it inside to overwinter. Guess I need a flag of some sort since I've gotten so many more plants now!
Steve
Sorry Steve, Every last one gone...
Steve,
Check the seeds I sent you, didn't I include some? Leonotis menthifolia only 4 foot tall.

I bought a plant L. leonitis and it was labeled Lion's Tail.
Steve, I'll make a note to add a couple of L. leonurus seeds to your latest envelope.
Dis, I'm assuming Kim has you covered on the L. leonurus. Email & LMK if you want a few of the L. nepatofolia seeds.
Lou, Did they ever arrive?
Kim, I happen to know your seeds reached Lou all right, because there was some confusion when she thought I'd sent them! But I sent her some salvia she wanted, which should be arriving soon, so it's all good.
My seeds have an envelope with my name on them...LOL
OK Thanks
Hey, I never said I could explain the confusion!
When I get confused, I just say I'm having a blonde day....
LOL LOL LOL
