When do you plant gladiolus?

Aurora, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm putting in bulbs for the first time this year, here in N. TX. I'm reading all sorts of things, and would appreciate an idea of when my Texas Neighbors plant theirs!

I am in san Antonio and now is the time to put in Glads, I did mine last weekend. I think N. Tx. is usually a couple to 3 weeks behind here. Good luck. I still have 2 more pks of Glads to put in, I space them out to space out the bloom time. SEEYA Margie aka Queen of Dirtland

They can be planted anytime danger of frost is over. I have some about a foot tall and I plant them two weeks apart for a while so they don't all bloom at the same time.

San Augustine, TX(Zone 8b)

That's the same way I do mine. I planted the first glads about 3-4 weeks ago. Little green shoots are showing as of yesterday!

Wow......that's neat--staggering bloom. =) I only have 12 bulbs; planting for the first time. I think I'll just plant the lot in a one spot, and have quite a nice show for my first attempt! Then, maybe I should pick up MORE bulbs and stagger.......=)

All for buying more plants, you see......

;-) Thanks!

MK, I get the big bags at Home Depot and stagger the plantings. I buy mixed colors and just tuck them into the empty spaces in the garden. My daughter loves them for cut flowers and the bulbs are cheap enough to do that with.

I love them, and so do the aphids...........so if they make it to bloom, then they need staking as well. Limited to the amount of staking one can do in a bed.

Also - slugs LOVE them. Be sure to put slug bait down.
